New or Used?

When you buy PS3 games, do you tend to buy brand new or second-hand? I can rarely justify dropping $70 on a game, so I would say I buy used 95% of the time. The only exceptions are games that are old and are already cheap brand new, or new games that I have been waiting for long enough I'm willing to pay extra. Used game stores will generally guarantee that the copy works and replace it if it doesn't, so I'm not too worried about buying a damaged game. I can still resell the game when I'm done with it and get a better percentage of the money back.

What about you - new or used? Why?

I buy used most of the time. I even ask for gift cards to places that sell used like Gamestop. I bought new when they came out but I'm saving up for a Wii and part of why I waited was so I can get used Wii games also.

Most of the time I buy new games. I usually have already tried out the game (renting or at a friends house). I usually only buy when I know we want it. I also only buy new games for my kids for gifts.

I mainly buy used games, because they work just as well, at half the price. I save money buying used games, so when a must have, new game comes along, I can splurge.

Good thought Zenon... I should buy used games too but I'm afraid they won't work. Do used games come with some kind of a warranty? You know it would stink to buy a used game for $20 and have it work a week!

I wouldn't have any qualms about buying a used game. I assume they would come with at least a short-term warranty just to make sure the game works. As long as it does, there's no reason to think there's anything wrong with a game. People simply get tired of playing them.

I try to buy new games, more to support game developers than because I think there are any quality issues with used ones. After all, when you buy used, the original game makers don't see a penny from that sale.

We always buy used unless there are no used copies available or the price difference between used and new is negligible. We buy from Gamestop and they guarantee their used games so we really don't see the logic in spending $60+ on a game when you could have two or even three used games for the same price! I mean, I like where LittleSister is coming from, wanting to support the game developer and all, but in a financially stretched household, we have to make every penny work for US!

I agree with you. I buy used, too. The only way I'll buy new is if I'm buying a game as a gift for someone else, because I don't want them to get offended and think that I was "too cheap" to buy them a new game.

Well, I have never bought a game for myself just yet. But, when my parents or brother buy the PlayStation games they almost always buy used. They cost way too much brand new, and aren't worth it in my opinion.

Sometimes I buy new, sometimes I buy used. It does depend on a lot of factors such as do I really want to game or
is it at a good price new on a site or store. Sometimes if I'm in a shop and find a game I've wanted used I will buy it.
Nowadays it does depend on price for me as I don't have as much money as I would like to spend on video games.

I buy new games, and have never bought a used game. I feel a used game doesn't have the same experience as playing a new game. I'm just weird like that. Even though the price is very different, I don't have any problem with a 10 dollar difference.

For me it varies. I would tend to get a new game just because it's, well, new. I like the newness of new things. Sometimes I may buy a used game though to save on money, or if the game is old and I can't get a new copy of it anyway.

I hate myself for it, but I usually buy new games. I don't know why, but I don't like buying used, call me weird. It's expensive though, so I can only afford a few games and have to skip out on some, but that's okay for me. I can always play on my PC to keep me busy.

Seeing how i research my games before i buy them, i always buy new so i can add it to my ever growing gaming collection.
You can't beat that smell of new (plastic)!

I always buy used. I can't really justify spending more for a new game if the used game has the exact same properties and the product is pretty much identical. Besides, I can usually wait for the game to be played by others and then resold before I purchase it. However, there are exceptions, such as when I am really confident in the company and want to get my hands on the game as soon as possible. One example I can think of right now would be GTA V and Rockstar, which I intend on buying on release or even pre-ordering.

I tend to buy used games like most people do that complain about the high price point. Honestly I can't remember the last time I bought a brand new game and ripped the clear packaging off before I played it. Maybe if the set price for a new released wasn't as high but I feel like that money spent could go towards my priorities like food and bills and things of that nature. Don't get me wrong though, when a game worthy of me spending the big bucks comes around, I'll find a way to make it happen.
