Not really finding a straight answer about the PS4 in regards to HDMI to component...

I have a pretty decent 42 Plasma....HDMI inputs work fine....but its set up to a Home Theater Receiver which only has component. So unless I upgrade to another receiver (dont really want to have to) or hope some converter works (Ive looked into that...) it looks like I wont be enjoying a PS4 anytime soon.

Somebody by this point has have to had tried good ol hdmi to component cables......do they work?

TIA

Does the receiver due optical out? Go hdmi to the tv and optical to the receiver. Then adjust the PS4 audio out settings.

The receiver doesnt Im afraid. It only has component out.....it has digital coax and optical in.....I hadnt thought that though. My receiver outputs the component to the tv....im not sure if it will let me have the ps4 on hdmi and receiver on dtv/cable with optical.

I can try to say turn the receiver to a setting with optical in.....and the tv to hdmi and see if that works?

Thanks Frantic! Whole other line of thinking!

I think the converter boxes may introduce a slight delay in the audio part but I am not sure. Try before you buy!

Ok. At least in my situation I can run the audio through the receiver and hdmi on tv. so basically hdmi video and optical audio. granted I dont have a PS4 atm....but i tried it with my ps3......it worked fine. still heard audio through the surround sound and had hdmi selected on the tv.

great!

thanks all for the input, especially Frantic :)
