Preorders End at Gamestop

Just in case you did not see the news; Gamestop has stopped taking preorders for the PS4. What's this mean in the console wars? Who knows, but its very good of them to realize that the supply is going to be less then the demand of the product. Could you imagine waking up and going to get your preordered PS4 and being told that there just weren't enough to go around.

How will this affect other retailers? I expect they'll have a flux of people ordering from them, so that's going to have some meaning to their cash flow.

I think this is great news for Sony, hopefully this means that they will win this next generation, as I like their attitude towards all the modernization that's been happening. As for game sales for other retailers, yes, they will probably experience the spillover from Gamestop. I don't know if this is the first time a console to sell out at pre-order stage, but I think the price they set has a lot to do with it, and it's a good thing to see that a company can learn from their mistakes and at this point it looks like PS is aging gracefully.

Yeah heard about this as well. Sony has pretty much been sailing smooth ever since they revealed the console. Even though they've made all the right decisions, it didn't hurt that Microsoft had to go through a huge PR nightmare. Even though Microsoft reversed their policies, I think it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and many decided to still switch to Sony. The $399 price tag also helps as well.

This is amazing if you consider that there are 2 consoles over $400 launching in the same year and it's sold out in July. Incredible even. They are not going to be able to keep either the PS4 or the Xbox One on the shelf. I would never have thought that. I think it helps both sides that for launch either side has the same third party games.

I'm wondering if they will attempt to push production to try to increase preorder capacity. The problem with this is, the failure rate would increase dramatically when speed is increased in production. There's less chance to catch those little QA issues and it might affect the end product. I don't think they will probably do this, but it does suck for people who want that 1st day sale.

Xbone also claims to have sold out, though who knows if this is really the case or not.

PS4 FTW! I just hope I won't have to wait a few days in advance for my PS4 even though I did pre-order.
