PS4 Allows Background Music While Playing Games

Sony has stated you can listen to music in the background while playing games! All you have to do is hold down on the PS button and up comes a menu where you could quickly pause or skip tracks, and adjust the volume. There are over 22 million songs in the Music Unlimited global library which is awesome! Pretty cool feature that the PS4 has in my opinion.

The new Music Unlimited streaming service features a completely redesigned user interface that was specifically enhanced for PS4. It is faster, simple to use, and enables gamers to easily discover new artists and songs from the Music Unlimited global library of over 22 million songs.

Awesome. Used to play music on the Xbox whilst playing games and was really hoping Sony would do the same eventually!

I already listen to music on my laptop when i am playing some PS3, but i think it's one of those things where "i don't use it, but i think it's nice they thought about it and implemented it". Some games already supported it on the PS3, but good they are making this a general thing from now on.

This is definitely a neat feature and like BlackSolaris said, some games on the PlayStation 3 did support this feature, it's nice to have it where it's universal for all games. I myself really enjoy listening to music while playing certain games so it's great to be an all around feature.

From what I read in that link, Premium members will have access to the 22 million song catalog, but it's more vague for the non-premium members. I'm assuming there is a free version, right?

Maybe this would come in handy for a game that has nice graphics and gameplay but with awful sound. It would also probably be good when you are replaying a game that you have already finished. Aside from that, I don't see any point on listening to music while playing a game unless the game has no sound at all. During the NES days, I always thought about playing my own music while playing a game. During these times though, it turns out that it's not really a cool idea.

This is the best news I've heard all day. I like my own soundtracks to games, especially if playing online. Not the storyline

Very good news for gamers. Now I am waiting for games like GTA V and Watch Dogs to arrive. I will be listening to some Eminem raps while recklessly driving in the town and having cops chasing me from every angle. Just like a fukin' gangsta.

This is a great feature its needed even though you could just do what someone said use your laptop, its so much easier to do this and just put music on as you play the game via the ps4.

I think the best part is how some games automatically mute their music but not their sound effects, so you still have the game's sound effects and your custom playing. Feels much better than just having your music alone, in my opinion, specially in those games in which you need to be aware of your surroundings.

I think I will past on this one. I already listen to music sometimes on my pc when I am playing. Most of the time it has to be quiet when I am playing a game so I can focus. This would be a cool new thing for the PlayStation but it is just not for me.

22 million?? That's an absolutely monstrous database. I wouldn't use it in-game much because the game's own music and sound is important, but I can see using it for racing games for sure. Yet another next-gen refinement has me salivating...

To be fair, the PS3 did this as well -- at least for certain titles. Each of the MLB: The Show games gave you the ability to play your own music in the background instead of the music that came pre-packaged with the game. All you had to do was add it to the jukebox from songs you had already uploaded to your PS3, assuming you've done that. I really made playing those games a lot more bearable, because there's only so many times you can hear those crappy licensed new age indie rock songs before you go utterly insane.

Anyways, the point is that this has always been viable for certain games. My concern here is that this is PR talk to make it sound like it will be available for all games, but in reality it will only be made available for certain titles -- just as it was with the PS3. It's cool that they're integrating their music service like that, but I'll reserve my judgment of it until we can actually see what it's going to look like.

That is a great feature that is long overdue. There is no reason why the Playstation 3 should have not featured this as well. Playing music off of your Playstation 4 in the background is a great feature. Music is one of those factors that actually benefit you while playing the game. I am one of those gamers who go into super sayian gaming while listening to music. That is excellent news for the Playstation community.

Sounds pretty neat! I don't usually listen to music when I play, but since they are making it this easy, I just might pick up the habit. I think I'd still prefer to just hear the original music, though, but of course it's better to have the option.

Oh sweet. I'm sure people will love this considering everybody just listened to music from their iPod before. I know I'll definitely use it!

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but I remember when we were playing games, we did use PS3's music player while ingame to listen to music while we were playing some matches in SF not too long ago...

I like this news. I like listening to music while I play and it would be nice to be able to listen while I play on my PS4 when I get it.
