PS4 Allows Background Music While Playing Games

the xbox 360 did and even the xbox did on some games. it sounded like a cool idea until you couldnt disable in game music, or the music you were playing was all wrong for the game you were in. still cool though

Fantastic news! I had not idea of this!
I already do this when gaming on my computer, being able to do it on my console right away seems fantastic, great feature!

Would totally depend on the game for me but I can see it being useful in some situations. Like driving games or long boring strategy games.

Either way another awesome feature from what is easily the best console being released this year.

Awesome, I remember that it was Killzone 2 that I was able to play music when I'm online. Now with the PS4 I can do that with every game! Besides, I play so much better when I'm listening to music it's just an enery booster or something along those lines.
My reflexes are quadrupled and I'll start to sweat a little. I'm extremely pumped for the PS4 I can hold in my excitement!

While I think that feature is a pretty dope concept to carry over from the PS3, my problem with this is that you won't be able to load your own personal collection of music onto the PS4, but rather opt-in to their music subscription to gain access to that feature. I think this sucks personally because it kind of limits the amount of music you can listen to. By this I mean that their are obviously going to be various pieces of music that Sony will not have access to due to licensing issues, (Mixtapes, Indepent EP's, etc...).

This is a great feature, and if it's easy to control, one that may actually have me lean towards the PS4 instead of the PC. I love listening to my own music while playing games like Battlefield, and racing games -- general games where there's no music, but lots of sound.

Then I can cheer myself up while playing Fallout! I'll be wandering through a desolate wasteland where everything has perished, and listening to Aqua or something else incessantly chirpy.

I think it's a neat feature, but I don't know if I'll actually make use of it. I never had music on my Playstation and I never even think to throw on music while I play otherwise. I usually don't mind just having the game on. I feel like it gets me more into the story while I play. However, we are thinking about getting Battlefield 4 and I think music while playing that online or something would be neat.

Of course, it’s nothing revolutionary but it’s still a neat feature for the PS4. Though I’m beginning to think that the music can be expanded much more than the conventional lyric-filled songs or just instrumentals for them. There’s things like binaural beats and isochronic tones that might be useful when gaming.

This is just speaking from experience, but playing games while listening to binaural beats or isochronic tones can help a lot with concentration, hand-eye coordination, and all sorts of things. But I highly doubt anyone would want to apply that unless they were hardcore gamers or just wanted to experiment a bit for fun. This has the probability of having significant use, but people will just have to be extremely creative.

Now this is a cool feature. I can't tell you how many times that I've played my own music when playing games. though I've had different reasons for doing so. Something it's just because I didn't like the soundtrack, sometimes I just wanted to fill the silence. If it works out well hen it could be a console seller for the PS4.

This feature alone makes me want to buy a PS4. I'm a huge music fan and Gamer and would love for both of those things to be in one spot. It's always a little bit of a hassle working my phone/itunes and playing a game.

Awesome, I was wondering whether or not it would be included. I'm really looking forward to playing some racers or shooters without having to change the music playing on my PC or anything inconvenient like that.

What I'm not too happy about is that this will depend on a streaming service, which will likely include advertisement or some form of subscription. Then there's also the fact that it will slow down your connection speed because it has to download the tracks as they play.

I really hope Sony will still let us import our own music and use it. I'll be really disappointed if I can't.

Wow, I was really hoping they included this but wasn't sure if Sony would. I don't remember which game it was, but one of the Pinball games on PSN let you do that and I took advantage of it big time. I didn't even get bored of the game because the music was soothing and plain awesome.

I agree, I'd rather play my own music during a game than having to rely on the streaming service. I tend to play a lot sports titles and the soundtracks never do it for me. Never. I'll say it's a half victory that you can even play music in the background, though.

Well that's great I can have a little background music while playing some games. Can't say I'm too excited about commercials in the middle of the intense parts, but you know.

Actually I turn the music off on games--especially open world ones (unless I'm in the car in a GTA game, Zelda, or Mario). I do like the option to listen to what I want to listen to even if it's through PS4's music app.

Ads would be a bother during the intense parts of games or in the middle of some multiplayer, but one or two minutes of ads twice or thrice an hour is nothing.

I do that too Tiger, but when it comes to my own music, bring it on! I can't wait to try this out on PS4! (When I can afford one). My soul is crying cause I don't have one. :'(

Sometimes I listen to the music. Normally I just have stereo on, but in some games there's stuff you need to hear: creeping enemies some distance away, etc.

That's the main reason I kill the music. The music of some games is usually pretty good and matches the atmosphere, but in like Fallout 3 or something, I really need to hear everything.
