ps4 customization

Hi!

I just got a ps4 a couple of weeks ago. I come from playing exclusively pc years previous.

I'm wondering if there is a way to customize the dashboard?

I login and it's literally like ad city. It's so unwelcoming and almost disturbing compared to the old 360. I want to get rid of the offers for redbox and unlimited music and blah blah blah from the start screen.. is there a way to do this?

And how come when I put a music cd that I purchased from a store, it says format not supports or something like that? I think that's shady if you can't play a music disc and they continually point you towards buying there partner products. I figured that Sony knew what was up when they decided that Microsoft's route of forcing crap on the customer was a bad idea. I guess I was to greedy in expected this thing to run like an android phone (large amount of customization and ability to do cool stuff you want it to vs just stuff they want you to buy).

Sorry for the book. To paraphrase, any way to customize the start screen, and does the ps4 play music cd's?

Ad City? Try the Xbox One or Xbox 360 dashboard lol.

As far as playing music, I'm pretty sure the PS4 at this time does not support playing mp3's.

Which region do you live in? I live in Australia and our dashboard doesn't have any Ads

you cannot customize anything at this point, which is a bummer, hopefully they change that.

also no media playback(unless you put in bluray movies).

both downsides of PS4.

The PS4 still can't play CDs or MP3s which is a HUGE error on Sony's part. You can't customize the home screen either, which sucks. There's talk of adding both of those things in later patches. Honestly, media playback should've come with the PS4 in the first place. Come on Sony, step your game up. (It doesn't help that they don't release updates as frequently as the XB1 either).

It really baffles me why Sony did not include the ability to have media playback and play mp3's. It seems like it would a simple thing to add.

I hate to think it, but I do think they maybe rushed the PS4 to beat Xbox One's release date.

You may be right Haze.
And although personally media playback doesnt bother me on PS4 as I bought it for gaming only one would think that simple things like MP3 playback and CD's would be included in launch PS4's FW,AND message pop up for when friends sign in.

Personally I think the reason it doesn't have media playback is that it will force you to subscribe music and video unlimited.

It's not that customizable in my opinion. You can barely change the font and a few themes here and there.

I would honestly be more excited to see PS4's patch update list for the year than what games are slotted to come out in 2016 lol. Making your PS4 your own is something that we all deserve. I still have tons of pics, videos and music that i would like to transfer from my ps3 before it just dies. I know, i know just save it to a stick or terrabyte drive but "It's MYYYY money and I want it NOOWW!!! (American commercial)...plus I procrastinate. Off the subject the shiny part of my PS4 is all scratched up now
It's constipates me to look at it.
