PS4 Is 50% More Powerful Than Xbox One, Developer Confirms

While the PS4 definitely has a chance at showing major advantage in the console wars this round it won't matter unless the games are up to the challenge. If game companies are willing to put in the time, effort, and money to maximize the system's capacity then all that hardware will mean a major edge. If they just pump out games to make a quick buck then it will go to waste. There were systems in the 'golden days of yore' that were technologically superior but still failed against other systems due to popularity and game development focus.

I wonder whether or not this will aid developers in developing exclusively for the PS4 rather than X1. I say this due to the fact that multiplatform titles are often developed then ported toward the end. With the PS4 having such a performance advantage, it'd be beneficial from the developer's standpoint to take advantage by developing exclusively on the platform.

Wasn't this the case with the PS3 and the Xbox 360 too? Wasn't the PS3 supposed to be more powerful than the 360? But why was it that multi-platform games played more fluidly on the Xbox 360 as compared to that of the PS3? I have read a lot of side by side comparisons of games of PS3 and Xbox 360 and most of the time, the Xbox 360 games remains on top. Power is useless if not used wisely.

Yeah, PS3 is supposedly more powerful than the 360 as well but I never once saw that come into play. In fact, most multi platform games played better on 360 for some reason. Power doesn't mean a damn thing. Hell, the Wii was a glorified Gamecube and the least powerful console last gen and look at it's sales.

Yeah, pretty much this. The PS3 absolutely had the more powerful hardware, but devs more often than not fumbled with it, and ended up making games actually perform worse on the PS3. All it'll come down to is how well the developer can, well, develop.

Maybe it also depends on the difficulty of making games for the console. Was the PS3 a more difficult platform to make games on as compared to the 360? I hope that the PS4 would be developer-friendly so that the hardware could be taken advantage of when developing games for the system.

Yes.

Yes,the PS4 is easier to develop for this time round.

But I dont think you will see differences in multi platform games, only exclusives.

Yes, the PS3 was an absolute horror to develop for and so porting a game over generally "broke" it for all intents and reasons. If however you built the game for the PS3 then it was a beautiful thing. Thankfully it seems like the PS4 is an easier console to develop for and therefore it's hardware edge may well making it the better console overall.

Of course, there are 2 other things to consider when looking at the 360 and PS3 in terms of future projections.

1. The 360 dropped first and it did so rather far in advance of the PS3 which means it ended up becoming the console developers had the most familiarity with. Therefore when the PS3 dropped with it's sucky coding structure it was honestly just out of luck in most cases. The cases that ended up really bringing Kudos to the system were generally those with an "abnormally" long development cycle to work out all the glitches and such.

2. Microsoft is beyond everything else a software company, Sony is beyond everything else a hardware company. That's the approach they bring to their consoles - easy coding for the Xbox and superb hardware for the PS. That said I really think they each realized they don't have to be one or the other and are trying to learn from each other this time around. We'll see how well everything works out this time.

I'm sure the average consumer still won't be able to tell the difference, but for the hardcore gamer, this is good news. Of course, the hardcore gamer already had an inkling about this as we've seen the stats on the console for months. Honestly, I'm not in the least surprised, although I somehow doubt the 40-50% faster claim. Will it be faster/better? Heck yeah. Will it be so much faster that you're going to notice a huge and undeniable difference at all times and with all titles? Probably not. Either way, I can't wait to pick up a PS4!

So basically the PS4 is how you say, more "future proof" than the Xbox One? If it's more powerful, then developers will be able to make more technically advanced games right?

Now I have a reason to buy the PS4 first. Both consoles are great, but if you boil it down i'm sure the PS4 will come out on top. Thanks for sharing.

PS4 is so much better than xbox one in more aspects than just hardware. But then again there are these people who would want to see concrete data first before giving into a fact. If you haven't seen this cool video on YouTube titles A Day With PlayStation, go watch it. :)

Ahh. I remember the days when there were no debates on which console was more powerful. As long as you can play Mario, you're contented enough. :)

Ahh more competition with the PS4/Xbox One. Starting to get funny now. PS4 has this feature than the Xbox One. Xbox One has this feature than the PS4. SCREW IT, i'm getting both systems and trying them out for myself.

I think I'm going to preorder... I've always trusted Sony when it comes to consoles, so I guess this time is going to be a win again, even though the competition is really tough, besides, I've been using Sony consoles for a long time that it has become a tradition.

Weeeellll, sort of. But not quite. Developers have a tendency to be lazy. Just take note of what happened in the PS 3 and Xbox 360. The PS 3 should be more powerful than the Xbox 360. But as you can see, the games on both systems look somewhat identical.

This is the type of fanboy stuff that does not hold any appeal to me. It does not matter if the system has better specs. What matters is how developers view the system. Is it easy to develop games for? That's what really matters. The software developers are the people that really matter as they create the content that we pay for.

Ugh its probably because Xbox is trying to turn into a complete media station. Really makes me upset that they practically arent even trying considering how good theyve done but whatever lol. PS4 lookin real good so far!

This was my initial thought as well coming into this thread. I think the advantages of this surplus power will show more as both consoles age and technology catches up and surpasses both. Especially since presumably developers will get more and more comfortable with the hardware and find ways to push it to the limit later on, and if one console has farther limits than another, then I would assume that it will show in the later stages of the consoles' lifespans.
