PS4 loses Black Friday console war

I was reading up on some PS4 news and came across an article that was kind of interesting. I guess PS4 lost out to the Xbox one in the "console war" on black friday. What do you think that says about the future of PS4? Why do you think the Xbox one is more attractive to most people than the PS4 is. I don't really think it matters much to Sony but I bet they would of liked to win rather than lose(wouldn't we all?) I just found it interesting that more consumers went for the Xbox one because it doesn't really appeal to me at all.

Isn't the Xbox One being marketed more as an all purpose media device? Maybe it appeals to more than just hard core gamers. The few people that I know who had one on launch seem pretty unimpressed, but they are gamers.

I believe Xbox One just came out around this time so they could take advantage of Black Friday and I guess it seemed to work. Think about it though; Black Friday, EVERYONES out there getting stuff and everyone is paying attention to the media, to coupons, to ads of all kinds. It's a good strategy actually.

I'm not surprised, Sony is marketing the PS4 hard as a gaming console whereas Microsoft has invested a lot of time and money appealing to a broader audience. In the short term that helps them sell more consoles. As always I don't take these so called 'milestones' very seriously, we won't know which console is really doing better in sales until Nov of 2014.

I really think it just depends on who had more consoles available. Both consoles are really hard to find, and sell out almost instantly, so it's really just a race to see who can supply the most. Next year we'll see which console is truly more popular.

I don't think the Xbox One is more attractive to people than the PS4. The One is more easier to comeby as its nearly impossible to get a PS4 without pre-order.

I've read some comments stating that Microsoft held off sales specifically to sell more on Black Friday, and it's also worth noting that Sony has already sold a lot more in the U.S. prior to this sale day, so it might also be due to that. I think Black Friday deals are not as good as indicators as looking at it further down the line. Nonetheless, PS4 will do fine, even if Xbox does well too. There has always been enough customers for both.

I would say PS4 lost the battle; the war is years from over....but that's just me being picky. I think we are seeing the fruits of Microsoft's fervent marketing. There is another huge sales rush coming this Christmas, so there is another stage for Sony to gain ground.

Is there a site that keeps track of console sales? I seem to remember one being operational for the last generation.

I'd say that's because PS4 is focused on gaming while the Xbox One's primary focus is an allaround device. And more people need that than true gaming consoles. So we could discuss this title on two aspects, as overall devices and gaming devices.

We lost Black Friday because they had more supply and we didn't have that many PS4s out there to sell because they had already been sold. My bro works at Walmart and he said that the PS4s sold quicker and the Xbones were the second choice of many people. He still had around 10 xbones Saturday afternoon

XBox One is also available in more markets then PS4.. Got to take that into account.

True.. but Black Friday is just a US thing, isn't it? It sounds like they are just comparing sales in the US. Regardless, I don't think this means the X1 is doing better than the PS4, it just means more were available on that particular day.

This. PS4 came out sometime before the X1 so I am pretty sure that they are nowhere to be found.

More XBox were available for purchase so more of them were sold. Simple.

I remember when I first heard about them losing the Black Friday war. It was surprising because not only was it the cheaper system, but it was also supposed to be the superior system as well.

How can the PS4 sell on black friday when stores had to especially hold out LAUNCH consoles to make sales on black friday? The PS4 is really high in demand and harder to get then the Xbox One, it's not a surprise the Xbox One beat it on black friday.

My point, PS4 still has the overall most sales, the higher demand, and is still beating the Xbox One in worldwide popularity (Made 1 million sales in the North America ALONE, the Xbox one made 1 million sales in over 13 markets including NA)

This does not effect the PS4 negatively, in fact we should all acknowledge that competition only makes both competitors make the best products for their consumers.
Sooner or later the kinect gimmick will take off and might just make more sales then the PS4 but right now that half-thousand price isn't looking too good for future sales especially for people who understand hardware.

I think if the PS4 and the Xbox One were released on Black Friday then MAYBE PS4 would win. However, a console that is as popular as Xbox, it would definitely outsell especially because the fact being that PS4 was released a few weeks before the One. So it is sort of unfair to compare them both on a day that Xbox was launched on.

That is strange. Stores in my area have sold out of the PS4 and have consoles reserved all the way into next year. The Xbox Ones are still on shelves.

I think its simply because ps4 launched a week earlier leaving less consoles available for Black Friday. When I got mine on launch day, they said they were keeping a few for black Friday. This was Walmart. Only a few per Walmart compaired to the XB1 launching.

That's actually a huge factor...
But still, I'm surprised by this because Sony was winning the "console war" with a huge advantage. This won't change anything, Sony will continue to be in the front.
