PS4 not 3D compatible???

Great news that it was added, it was about time, they did say it would be soon after release and that timeframe was running out.
You should start asking for more features to see if Sony will release them :)
How about that function where every time we open the DVD tray a $100 bill pops out? ;)

Now why didn't I think of that? Here I'm worried about 3D movies when I could be getting Benjamin's flying out at me! Lol

It's a shame 3D never took off. It is still lingering around but I feel like majority of people don't like it. It's good that they finally have released support for it though... Let's hope they add some more essential features in upcoming updates!

Is 3D really essential though? I'd rather have the Sony team working on more pertinent things. As already stated, not many people care about 3D. People want it, but even those people will not really use it.

Well I suppose essential is the wrong word but you'd think 3D support would have been done a bit earlier seeing as though Sony were so keen to invest into it and PS3 had support for it quite quickly. Essential is more basic in stuff like mp3 playback (which seemingly is coming according to another post here).

I don't think 3D is essential AT ALL, it is pretty far down the list of needed features in my opinion.
Sure it's something neat if you have people over and are just showing off, but who would use it regularly? We can already see on the Nintendo 3DS, they did a poll and something like 80% of people have the 3D turned completely off most of the time.

Well the only reason I wanted it was bc 1. The ps3 had it
2. I already had 3D movies
3. My bday just passed and my gf bought me a few 3D movies that I couldn't watch now

So you can see why I wanted my ps4 to be 3D compatible Lol

But not a big deal anymore since it was updated for 3D movies :)

The 3D on my LG smart TV is the best I have ever seen. I've always thought 3D was kinda cheese but not on my LG. Of course I need the PS4 to watch them.

Whoopie die doo?

It's just crappy 3d. It doesn't work well for the most part and most games don't bother..
They'll add it when they have some free time..
I think they have other issues to work about.. LIKE MORE GAMES...

While a 3D capable PS4 doesnt bother as I use a stand alone blu ray player 3D movies can be great. Not cheesy out of the screen in your face stuff, though they can still be fun on comedies or campy horrors the best use of 3D in movies is for pure depth, and when those movies are filmed in native 3D.
Prime examples are Prometheus and Avatar, must watch movies in 3D. The depth in these are great.

However as for 3D in games,I agree. Doesnt seem good at all.

So don't be diss'in the 3D entirely :o

Yeah, but if you think about it, its good because its all about price control, you want a good affordable console, if you want 3d, you should buy a Blu ray player...

I think there is a planned upgrade, in beta there were experiments that used the 3D aspect to render separate polarized images for split screen users. I thought this was a great use of it , it allowed 2 players to view separate streams on the same TV screen. (Wearing opposite polarized glasses of course)

I did this on PS3 with Black Ops 2.
Any passive 3D can do it too,and ofcourse you need 2 sets of glasses, one set has the 2 left lenses from 3D glasses, the other set has the 2 right lenses thus blocking each others image.
While it does block it mostly, you can see some ghosting from the other player depending on whats going on,like dark backrgounds for eg but it does work quite well.
Black Op 2 also has dual screen in the games graphical settings too so it optimizes it I believe.

On PS4 it actually works better as resolution seems higher for both people than on PS3 games.
I have tried it with CoD Ghosts on PS4 and although the game doesnt have dual play screen settings you can still do it,each person's screen looks a little stretched though is all. Still better than split screening I think.
Ofcourse res isnt as good as if you are playing solo as the PS4 is basically displaying 2 sets of diff images at the same time overlapping in full screen. But as I said, dual screening on PS4 still looks better than on PS3.

I personally don't watch 3d movies because i don't own a 3d Tv. So this update is pretty much useless to me right now considering i don't own any 3d movies.

I think 3D things are cool. I don't think they're the next big thing though. The glasses are just too obstructive to really provide any sense of immersion. VR can get away with the big headsets because you feel as if you're really there. 3D just makes things pop out at you. But yeah anyway it's good that they finally updated 3D BluRay. I've seen some people asking for it.

This fun for campy horror and comedy movies but honestly, the best use of 3D in movies is only for depth.
Prometheus and Avatar and prime examples. Awesome use of depth,it looks like you are looking into the screen, into another world :Onya
