PS4 recording "virtually unlimited"

Rumor has it that the PS4 actually records 15 minutes before you actually click record so it can catch something unexpected when you're not recording at all. Basically, you can record 1000 hours on the PS4, but that would take up too much space. I just hope this is true so I don't have to buy a capture card for the PS4. Not sure what it records in yet, but I believe it's the same as the Xbox One, 720p with a solid 30fps.

Kotaku commenter Dagson stated that the PlayStation 4′s recording capabilities are not capped at just capturing 15-minute clips. Players are apparently able to capture “virtually unlimited” gameplay while actively recording/streaming.

Wow, this definitely something that I didn't expect at all. To be honest, I was already content with the ability to record up to 15 minutes of gameplay, especially compared to the 5 minutes Microsoft allows with the Xbox One. Now that it has been reported that you can record up to as much as you want on the PS4, as long as you have the space then this will certainly be something amazing. I hope this turns out to be true.

It will certainly help me with my YouTube content. I no longer need to break my gameplay sessions into 15 minutes. This is the best news for me. No need to spend any money on capture card.

That's pretty interesting. Capturing and uploading gameplay isn't something I have ever done in the past but with it being so accessible I can make my debut. This is great news, I can't wait for the concrete details in these next upcoming weeks.

I bet we'll see a huge increase in video uploads in YouTube once the PS4 comes out. I hope that it will also support storing the video in the cloud so as not to use up all the space in the hard drive. It's a good thing that we won't be limited to just 15 minutes of footage though.

I think this is a great move by them, and shows great foresight. Obviously, people would rather the console just be able to do everything instead of having to hook up a dozen other accessories to it, which is what I suspect would happen, as is with all gadgets now. So it's great that we at least wouldn't have to hook up another separate hard drive just for captures.

This will be great. Especially for games with dynamic engines such as Red Dead Redemption or GTA where things happen that cannot be recreated, I want to hit that share button and immediately post it to my Facebook wall. 15 minutes always ready to go? That's going to be phenomenal and I can't wait to jump into that.

Now this is worth noting. The previous 15 minutes was just a bit of a meh and it couldn't really compete with serious gaming journalists that use capture cards, but this is significantly more noteworthy, and I think that it will give the PS4 a lot of publicity. Virtually anyone will be able to record their favourite games and broadcast them for the whole world to see, and I think that the gaming community on the whole will hugely benefit from this.

That is an awesome feature that I would expect nothing less, from Playstation. I mean I never really recorded my game footage, but with this new feature I will more than likely do so now. I will record tons of footage that will entertain those watching.

It is hard to believe that we will soon be able to record a thousand hours of gameplay without having to buy an add on feature. I think Sony has Microsoft beat on this one for the next generation console battle. I am pretty much floored at this news. I hope that it works perfectly and there are no bugs with it.

Well this is only good news. For too long something funny has happened to me whilst playing games and I haven't been recording. Like getting run over on GTA whilst trying to steal a car. Seems a bit fishy though that they are just making a built in capture card for the PS4 without spending money to activate it.

I doubt that they will follow up with this. The way these 8th generation consoles are going, We probably won't have any recording capacities at all.

Kind of makes you wonder why Xbox One would even bother with its 5-minutes-at-a-time capability. I thought 15 minutes was good, it was still better than Microsoft. But unlimited? Now we're talking.

I agree that this will help me drastically with my YouTube content as well. I can't wait to start recording videos on my PS4. Specially since the videos downloads will be unlimited. That gives me a lot of chances to actually get everything I need done.

And what do you believe the catch is? This blows xbox's pathetic recording capacity right out of the water. Even if it really is not unlimited but something like 5 hours that is still going to destroy the competition. What would the catch be, that you can only hold onto a certain length of recording for limited time?

And what do you anticipate those limits being? Only a certain amount of recording time per gameplay session or what? It will be interesting to see if they are telling the truth here or not.
