PS4 will run cooler than the PS3

I haven't ran into many problems on my PS3 overheating, but some people who play on their PS4 8 hours a day may like this new feature. It seems like the PS4 has gotten a huge upgrade on their fans I believe, the PS4 will run a lot cooler than the PS3. They lowered the temps by a significant amount, and I'm sure some of you will like this change.

What is interesting is the tidbits of info the FCC registration coughs up. According to the registration, the PS4 will run at 5-35 degrees Celsius - which is fairly cool compared to the PS3's average of 45-55 (over 60 and you're at risk of the YLOD).

Again, that's great news. I only had an overheating problem once back when I had the "fat" PS3. But the slim has been pretty good heat wise.

Operating Temperature != The temperature the device can reach. It's the temperature that the device is recommended to be runned within. Aka the ambient temperature. So it should be safe to run a PS3 in a room thats between 5 to 35 C.
It's own interla temperature is not 5 to 35C, , this article is very misleading.

Does it guarantee that will not overheat when using the console! It is still small the PS4 .... It's still a little disturbing.

Sony has always given good material, so we should not doubt!
I also hope that the console runs silently!

I feel we approach the release of the console! I love it!

That's a good thing, for sure, but not one of my top concerns. I've never had a console overheat on me before. Granted, I haven't had my PS3 that long, but I've had zero issues thus far. As long as you don't leave it in direct sunlight (or I guess if you don't have AC), it shouldn't be that big of a concern.

If that's the case, I won't need to aim the fan in the direction of the PlayStation no more. I'm living in a tropical place and electronic devices tend to heat up rather quickly. Making a console that doesn't heat up easily is always welcome here. Another nice move for Sony.

My PS3 heats up like crazy, and I hate that I have to keep turning it on and off when leaving the room just to be safe. Also, I usually have to keep conscious of my playing time, which I hate because I like to really get lost when I play, and sometimes I even bring in a mini fan just to compensate. I don't really know what damages it will cause, because fortunately nothing has happened yet, but it can't possibly be good and it's worrying so I'd really be happy if they got to solve this significantly.

Hopefully cool = quiet as well. Nothing was worse when playing my 360 late at night and the thing sounding like an airplane taking off. My PS3 was always quieter by a lot but it also got pretty hot. I think Sony's engineering is top notch so it would not surprise me that they solved this.

My PS3 only had a few overheating issues on hot days, but it's really cool to hear that the PS4 will run much cooler, and as an above poster said, hopefully that means it'll run quietly, too. Nothing better than a quiet console that rarely overheats, eh?

I never had overheating issues with my PS3, although that could simply be because I have the slim version of the system. Still, like many others here, even though I never had issues with my console, this is still a great move by Sony nonetheless and it's good to see them taking all the necessary precautions when it comes to the PS4. Hope there won't be any issues when the system is released in November.

We all know that it is quite important to run all your technical stuff as cool as it gets. Well, let's say it should be cool enough.

On the long run you will profit from that because your consoles, PCs and other things will last longer.

My slim has never had any crazy heating issues. Sure, it gets warm after hours of use at a time, but never to the point where it could boil water or cause a shutdown/crash of the system. My compliments to Sony, that's something Microsoft has had years to try and solve and still can't figure out.

I think PS 3 overheating depends on the environment that you are in. If you live in a generally hot place and you have the tendency to play for hours with no break at all, then the chances of the PS 3 overheating is high. But if you live in a cool place, you don't need to worry about overheating too much. Still, Sony is to be commended for trying to address the issue of overheating.

you also get the occassional moron (some of my mates included) who would rest their jumpers, or laptops turned on, on top of the ps3, which just heats it up like crazy.

I usually keep my consoles in areas that are generally open, spacious, and air conditioned, thus I rarely run into issues with overheating unless it is a hardware fault. Funny you should mention the stupidity of some console owners, Mudgee, because I also have a friend who puts his console through the worst conditions possible just because he is too lazy not to. That can only wear down the hardware and create heating issues in the future. The only thing that bothers me about the overheating is the whirling, buzzing noise that gets louder as the fans have to work harder. Better cooling means less noise, so this is an excellent improvement to me!

I remember my ps3 would get crazy hot. No issue so far with the 4.
