Ps5 storage

Hi I'm sure this topic has been covered loads but I need to increase storage and am wondering if I should hold off to see if ps release a hard drive that ps5 games can be played directly from or a software update to alow this think its daft that they have taken a step backwards and not allowing this I can't justify the price of a ssd either
Thanks any help appreciated

The reason the PS5 uses a solid state drive is it has to be quick to not only access the programs but keep them running smoothly without staggering. If you do an external right now, whether it be SS or not, you can only store PS4 content on it. Im not exactly confident that if they allowed a SS drive as an external addition, whether it would mesh well in speed and accuracy with the on-board drive. There may be lag issues so perhaps that's the reason for not giving the option. Hard to say.
