PSP Vita vs PSP 3000

Hi, I know this might sound stupid but I really want to know if the Vita is worth buying. Currently I have a PSP 3000 and have been thinking of switching to the Vita, but all my friends who have one say that the 3k is better. What are your views on this? Should I make the switch or wait out for the next handheld console?

I am stuck on this very same question.
I have a PSP 1000 with custom firmware and I use it almost everyday at work but I have been toying with the idea of a Vita.
The thing is I have not seen any software that has been released that make me go to the shops and buy one, I have a PS3 and play mainly FPS so when call of duty classified was announced i got excited but on release the game got canned so since then my interest has dwindled.
after doing a bit of searching it would appear that a lot of people are using a Vita to play old PSP games on.

I prefer the PSP Vita. When I was in hospital in passed the time and I think it was surprisingly more entertaining than I had expected, also the graphics were better then I imagined so it's pretty neat.

But what about the battery life? I remember complaints about how the battery life was really short for a hand-held console, something like 3 hours? I don't really remember the exact figure but is it really as short as people complain?

I love my PSP 3000, and I have thought about the Vita, but the benefits have never been enough for the change. I have only had my 3000 for a couple of years, and my old 1000 before that. I like my current games for the 3000, which usually don't take too much graphics (puzzle games, but some racing too) so I haven't had any real desire to switch. My 3000 is enough for me, and i plan on sticking with it.

Unless you have interest in Vita games stick with the PSP if it is only PSP Games you are going to play.

PSP Vita is much stronger and can do much more and there are some good games coming to vita and are already on vita.

PSP games too look fantastic on vita unless you are only going to play PSP games of vita, then stick with a PSP and you wont have to pay for more.

Well, when you can put a custom firmware on the Vita, i would say to take the jump, because that screen is gorgeous! But right now, the PSP in general is the best handheld console ever made because of how many things you can use it for, not just games.

Wow. Thanks for all the input guys. Looking at it I think I'll stay with my 3000. I usually stick to the action, RPG genre and sometime racing too. To date my favorite games are Monster Hunter and Fate/Extra. The gameplay for Monster Hunter and storyline for Fate/Extra have really got me hooked? What are some of the games you guys play on your PSP/Vita?

I own both a PSP 3000 and a PS Vita, and while I do love both, I have to admit that the Vita currently has less games out right now, which might mean that the 3000 is worth hanging onto for a bit longer. I really like my 3000 because of the custom firmware on mine, and because of the library of games that I can just pick up and play (DJ Max, Dissidia, BlazBlue, etc.) The Vita definitely has some must-play titles, but for now I feel as though it's not worth giving up the 3000 for. Keep an eye out though, I'm sure many good games will be coming to the Vita soon, and then it'll be worth the exchange!
