Rebuilding the PS4 Database

I've been experiencing some minor issues with my PS4, messages not showing, PS4 not turning off unless the power button is actually pressed, menu loading issues.

I've been reading online and people say that rebuilding your PS4s Database can help.

I was wondering exactly what it does and if any information is lost such as saved data or files? The descriptions online don't give too much detail about exactly what it does.

all your stuff saves. depending on how much you have it takes longer. i just unplugged the power cord and repeatedly pressed the power button until i heard one long beep
