repairing laptops

I was talking with someone who repairs computers, and he said he doesn't work on laptops. Are they that much harder to repair? I would rather get a laptop than another desktop, but I don't want something that will be difficult or expensive to repair.

I think most people have laptops now so there has to be plenty of people willing to fix them. I think if they were that difficult to repair then so many people would not have them. I think it is just that different people specialize in different things. Desktops and laptops do have differences so maybe if he is content just working on desktops it's because that's what he knows he can do best.

Everything's so much smaller than a desktop so it probably is harder (and more expensive) to repair. If you use a cooling tray you shouldn't need to repair it before it's time to get a new one.

I think it is just about size. If somebody is accustomed to repairing desktops only, a laptop is going to be a bit more work. In the end I think it's just about knowledge though. I've seen plenty of shops that specialize in laptops. Just be careful you don't spill anything on the keyboard like I did.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate the help and what everyone says makes sense. Laptops and desktops are so different and their repair issues probably are as well. Most of the local stores sell laptops, so there must be quite a few options for repairing them.
