Rumor about a new ps4 model

Umm... is it not a little early to be issuing new models? Maybe this is just to secure the future?

A new model would be pointless. It's not going to happen anytime soon. Their sales would be horrible. Not many people would buy a new model when they already have a relatively new model. They would come off looking as bad as someone who posts advertisements on a brand new website. Money hungry is not a good look for you.

I can't see any good reason to come out with a new model. They just came out with the PS4, so I can't imagine why they would feel like releasing a new model. The new model would sell terribly, as someone said above- Very few people are going to rush out to buy a new product when they just bought the one prior to that.

The PS4 is already pretty slim IMO. I can see them making a slim version with more hard drive space, but meh. I think it's way too soon for that to happen. Maybe it's just a redesigned version for Destiny? Who knows, maybe they'll surprise us at E3.

I hope they surprise us at E3 but I really hope they don't reveal another version of the console. There is no need to come out with another this soon when they are still selling.

I don't know why any of you would care seeing as you already have your PS4. I can see saying no to it after we see it but it seems a little strange to not want something when you don't know what it is. If Sony could release another console right around E3 $50 to $100 less it would be another nail in the coffin for MS. My best guess would be they pull the HDD as most people swap them out anyhow. Sony is so far ahead now they would be silly not to try and counter the new $399 kinect free ONE. If they do not announce some sort of price drop or cheaper console it may come back and bite them in the arse

No doubt they will release a PS4 Slim in the future, just like they've done with all other platforms. But if it's soon then yeah, way too soon!

dafuq?

I just got my PS4 a couple of weeks back, and news like this irks me. I sure as hell wouldn't be happy if my brand new PS4 is already an 'older model' , just 6 months after launch. I don't mind if its the exact same model but with a stripped HDD or even a slightly bigger HDD, that's fine by me. But if it's improved in terms of design or specs (they can't really improve specs, only maybe make it cooler or wtv) I'd be

Yeah, this could be a good counter to the Kinectless Xbone for sure. The article mentions it's more than just a harddrive size change (but less than a redesign), so... more efficient heating, maybe? I agree that they could release a model with the HDD pulled completely; it won't piss anyone off who's already bought it, but it'll put a lower entry price tag on the console for people who are just gonna replace it anyway.

The only problem with that would be people buying it without understanding that basically everything needs to be installed these days. I guess they could go with flash memory like the last PS3 model that came out, but that's really limited in size.

As I'm waiting for good deals to come around before I buy a PS4, this does come as welcome news if it's indeed true. Whilst I accept many people do have a PS4 and believe me, I've shared your frustrations by buying early twice (PS2 & PS3) with news of this nature coming so soon, please remember there are many out there such as myself who still haven't upgraded to one yet. Whether it be down to a lack of affordability with the console as it stands, a lack of time or whatever…

With that said, if this is true, this does seem to be rather early to announce a new version of the same console. Poor form by Sony who continue to strangle the UK with small numbers being imported in to keep demand and prices artificially high. Normally announcements over new versions of consoles don't happen for well over a year. It's usually much better value bundles (which I'm holding out for) or official discounts that come before this, so I'm surprised.

I recall saying here only a month or so back if there was ever to be a PS4 'lite', I'd probably choose that over the ‘proper’ PS4 simply because I know full well I wouldn't get full use out of all the console's abilities.

It's interesting times... It may be worth while if I were to hang on a little longer to see if anything develops from this. Will good things come to those that wait? Watch this space…!

I'm guessing it will be made using cheaper parts

Probably smaller more efficient chip design as always happens and Sony probably nailed the design for the PS4 some 2 years or so prior to release so there could be some considerable cost savings to be made.

I can't imagine it being any slimmer/smaller surely?!

It probably just a different storage size. Maybe a 1TB version since everyone is complaining about space. The other model they are talking about is a New PS3.

This isn't as unusual as all of you are suggesting. If Sony are hoping to release a slim version 2-3 years after the initial launch, then they would already be designing this now. It takes a long time to design a model and test prototypes, so this is often done straight after the initial release.

I think it's a bit too early for them to be making a new model. Unless the old model has a lot of issues and sorts but I haven't heard anything about that or maybe this new model is designed to go with a new piece of hardware that they're developing? Those virtual reality goggles that they're currently working on sounds like a good bundle to me. But if they're just making a new model for kicks then I don't really see a point. Maybe they'll put backwards compatibility on it after all.

I agree, I can see it being h d d tweaked or removed

It's not gonna be a completely new model (like PS3 fat to Slim) but rather a small tweak, such as using smaller tech process for CPU to make it run cooler.

I'd actually like an update like that, even though it is a small tweak. There is nothing more annoying than listening to my PS's fan uncontrollably spinning. I have to turn the TV up as soon as the fan comes on to drown out the sound, and I hate listening to things louder than they have to be.

Most probably a new revision of the current model like a different BR drive or a larger HDD or maybe a smaller Nm chip or something. I don't see a Slim variant coming out anytime soon, maybe next year or so. I mean, the PS4 just came out like 6 months ago, releasing a Slim so soon is ridiculous. Also the codes on the models suggest little changes only.

Well, this is very interesting, I guess. Too bad I already purchased one or else I would wait for more news on this model.
