Siphon Filter 1 vs Metal Gear

Hey guys, I would just want to gather your opinion with regards to two great games for the PS 1 - Siphon Filter and Metal Gear Solid. Both are action adventure games with gruff take-no-crap heroes. I played Metal Gear first but I fell in love with Siphon Filter much sooner. I loved the the fact that Siphon Filter had an easy to grasp but intense gameplay. Killing dudes was simply a lot of fun.

But when I eventually learned the ropes of Metal Gear and was eventually able to ride that freakin elevator, I appreciated it even more than Siphon Filter. It was an incredible experience like no other. So, which game do you prefer?

I think Metal Gear is the best. Syphon filter was a good game, but MGS has the best gameplay overall. I just think Metal Gear was more fun too. The storyline is better, but syphon filter is quite cool too. I like them both but it's a clear MGS vote from me.

Completely agree with you. Syphon filter was pretty good for it's time, but Metal Gear Solid was like a masterpiece that is able to hold it's own even to today's standards.

oh god Syphon Filter and MGS were such great games. Both in my top 5 for the PlayStation. But yeah Metal Gear was the better game. I didn't like how they took Syphon Filter to a multiplayer type game in later versions. I'm still waiting on the old nes Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 which was never released in the US to be remade on a next gen consoles. I'm really surprised they haven't done that yet.

One thing I really liked about the original Syphon Filter was the Taser. It was a pretty cool weapon that could reach any bad guy wherever they were and fry them to a crisp! Some of the guns in the game were even no match! Check out this YouTube vid:

Siphon Filter was decent but I'll have to go with the Metal Gear Series, especially the first one for the Playstation. I recall replaying and finishing the game more than 10 times before I got tired of it . In addition to that, I loved the final boss battle against Liquid Snake. There's nothing better than hand-to-hand CQ combat. Moreover, there was also a very creepy mini-game wherein if you took a picture of a certain area with dead bodies, you would see faces of different ghosts. Freaking creepy.

I liked playing Metal Gear a lot more alone. Whenever a friend would visit though, we'd always opt to pop in Siphon Filter a lot more times than MG since that had a multiplayer. We'd spend hours just hunting each other down and using different ways, weapons and tactics to do it. So much fun was had in that game, for me personally, that I'd give it a higher score than I originally would have, had I not found out how fun multiplayer on it would be.

Yup, I also found the multiplayer mode in Syphon Filter 2 a lot of fun. It allowed us to play with different characters in the game, each with different weapons. The only problem with that though was instead of looking at my part of the screen, I would be looking at the screen of my opponent in order to see where he or she was. Lol.

I did love Syphon Filter, it has this great atmosphere to it and the gameplay is superb. However you really can't beat Metal Gear Solid 1, the only fault i can bring with it, is the controls tended to be horrible (anyone remember trying to get up the stairs, on your way to the hind-d, with these controls?). The story however, the gameplay, that unique feeling of lurking around and silently making your way through the game. It was just --and still is-- such a unique and amazing experience.
