Skylanders for ps4

Skylanders is pretty cool and the starter set could keep you going for a while. But I've never been a fan of the fact that you had to purchase more characters in the store though I guess that's for the kids. It's like DLC I guess (overpriced) DLC. But still the game itself is fun and I enjoyed it. I'm actually considering getting it for the PS4.

I bought skylanders for the kids yesterday. Buying all the "characters" is something new that is for sure. We have 4 characters.
Question. How do you save in this game?
When we played lego Marvel Super heroes, we had save check points but here, I don't see it.
Does the game auto save?
