Skype On PS4?

A number of reporting agencies are saying that Skype is not an impossibility on the PS4. One particular article (which I cannot link yet due to me being too low ranking in membership here) states:

In the meantime Mr Gillett said Skype was exploring how to offer 1080p "super-high definition" video call resolution to other devices apart from the forthcoming Xbox One video games console.

Since the standard would require extra processing power, he added that tablets and laptops were set to gain the facility ahead of smartphones.

PlayStation Vita running Skype
Skype runs on the PlayStation Portable and Vita handheld consoles, but has not been announced for the PS4
And he would not rule out the software coming to Sony's PlayStation 4 which will compete with Microsoft's machine.

If this comes to fruition, I'll have a great new use for my PS4. I may never leave the living room!

Really interesting. It will be easier to chat with someone while playing games as they support it now. Thanks Sony.

There probably will be Skype on the PS4. If they have it on smartphones, then they can make an app for the PS4. Really, the PS4 is a big computer so it should be able to work just fine. I never really use Skype so it doesn't matter for me, but I would believe that Skype is possible on the PS4.

It's so weird Microsoft allows this. But I bet they have some complex deal going on so they pretty much would need to.

I was even surprised that vita had skype.

Anyways, I barely use skype so it doesn't really effect me. Good for those which do though.

I agree, Skype is not a big deal to me either. I don't really use Skype that much. I would never be into using Skype on a console system. Although it would be a cool idea to use Skype on a console, but I wouldn't recommend it.

If they make the calls on Skype real HD then internet speeds will really have to catch up soon. As far as PS4 having it, I think it would be great, especially since you can presumably keep playing while video chatting. I think these companies are preparing for a future that the masses can't yet imagine for now, but with news like these I can't help but think that it won't be long until we get even closer to the technology and lifestyle of the fantasy sci fi movies we see.

Not really sure what they would need Skype for. I guess it would be useful for calling people who arent on their PS4's and there really is no other program good for that so i can see the sense in it. I moreso think its not something they actually needed, but a nice bonus though

It's already happening, isn't it? Sony announced back in E3 that it's going to happen. I am not sure though.

If we have to use Skype on Playstation 4 then we will have to add a separate expensive camera to the Playstation, I cannot spend this much only for gaming. What's your count friends ?

As Skype is now owned by Microsoft, it is unlikely to see happen on PS4. I also like that, but it is easy to dispense.

Skype is now everywhere. If I have my phone on me, I see no problem.
The PS4 will surely integrate such a service. Do not worry about that. :D

Hopefully! It would be so much better to chat with friends while playing a game. The Message system it has now is a bit awkward... I think it will have skype like all new consoles released by Sony.

That would be something cool to add-on I think. I use Skype every now and then, not really all that much. I do know a lot of people who do use it a lot and who would love that as a feature on it. I think it would add to the game play to those who would use it as it should be used. The feature has a possibility of being abused though, but if it were used properly, I think it would be great!

Being able to use the PS4 as a videoconferencing system would be yet another reason to own it and is a plus in my book.

I'm really surprised home based videoconferencing hasn't taken off.

The PS4 will be another service that will do the same as Skype. You can therefore make video chat with your friends without problems.
Skype owned by Microsoft, so you can still dream to see happen on PS4.

I wonder if the video chat will be available while you're playing?

Then the voice chat is enough. To talk to the family, we can use what is called a computer! Wow! It is magic! xD
