Stealth-based games or games with stealth elements

I'm a bit ashamed to say I haven't played any of the Metal Gear Solid games (yet), mainly because of the stealth part of it. I have a history with being really bad at stealth games, or the parts of games that require stealth. For the past few years or so, though, I've found that there are games coming out where the stealth parts are a lot more doable, so to speak. The first game that comes to mind is Arkham Asylum, which is another game I really wanted to play but avoided for a while because of the things I had heard about it. Once I started into the game, though, I found the parts that required sneaking around really weren't so bad. Normally I get really anxious during those parts, but Arkham Asylum (and City) made it pretty accessible for sissies like me.

Anyway: what kinds of games do you think utilize stealth elements the best? Which ones are just frustrating?

The Tenchu series is one of the best PS games to utilize stealth elements. The art of stealth is indispensable to ninjas, as they must take down their opponents without being noticed. You will have to lure your opponents with various bait that will attract them, such as rice cakes laced with poison. Before they eat the rice cake, you will have already stealth-killed them. That is what I like the most about Tenchu.

Manhunt comes in a close second, and just like Tenchu, you must kill your opponents without getting the attention of nearby gangs. You will have to create some noise in order to lure the hunters away from each other and into you.

On a side note, I really enjoy stealth-killing police officers as the White Rabbit instead of James Earl Cash in Manhunt.

I don't know why, exactly, but Assassin's Creed appeals to me the most out of all the recent stealth games I've played so far. Granted, I haven't really played much of them, since I'm like you and don't really play too many stealth games.

Alongside Arkham Asylum, the Assassin's Creed games were what turned my opinion of stealth games around. Assassin's Creed II, in particular, is the game that got me hooked on the franchise. There were some frustrating parts to it like any game, but I don't think I ever had to retry a part more than a couple of times to get it right. What makes it great are the methods of stealth that stretch beyond hiding behind a wall or crouching.

I enjoyed Assassin's Creed a lot when it comes to general gameplay. Mainly because I'm a fan of open world games. But if we're talking mainly about the stealth mode. I would vote for Tenchu. I have only played Wrath Of Heaven (which they say is the best) and I really enjoyed it. There's even a 2-player mode, where you and your friend will infiltrate a place and must NOT be seen.

I guess I just don't enjoy stealth by itself. It has to be part of the bigger picture, or I'll just get bored or frustrated (or both). I like to be able to jump into a group of enemies and take them down in some way or another, but being able to pick one (or all of them) off in a sneaky way is a very satisfying.

Aside from those mentioned by our fellow ps4 forum members, I would like to add Tomb Raider to the list. Yes, you could attack all the baddies head on but there are times that you should use stealth to your advantage. The Hitman series has also used stealth in very unique ways. You could approach a target numerous ways and dispose of them by using your creativity. And of course, there's the Siphon Filter games on the PS 1.

I prefer games with stealth based elements and the Batman Arkham games are perfect examples of that. I love that they incorporate the stealth elements of how Batman would actually approach a situation but at the same time, still keep that element of jumping in a room full of bad guys and taking them out one by one.

Skyrim had a bit of stealth to it, but it was optional. Sneak attacks deal more damage, which is definitely good for gaining the upper hand on powerful enemies. I generally didn't have that problem in the game, but it's good to have that as an option. I wouldn't care for it if it were absolutely mandatory, though.

The Hitman series had the best stealth system in any game, hands down. In some areas you could just casually walk around, but for the areas with restricted access you had the choice of sneaking in, dressing up as someone that did have access to that area or sometimes even finding ID or keys to let you in. That game had tonnes of replayability due to this, you could complete every single level in multiple different ways and never get bored of it.

I am a natural stealth player. I like playing stealth. I like sneaking and sniping. If possible I will build a squishy stealth player who doesn't like running. That said my favorites are Dishonoured, games like Fallout and Elderscroll, and the Arkham series. I like Assasin's Creed but not for the stealth. I guess my thing is that I one of the best parts of a game for me is that cheerful feeling you get when their head goes "spoosh" or they just stagger and drop from a arrow to the chest.

The Assassin's Creed games have sort of streamlined stealth for a lot of people. I mean, a lot of it is quite tricky and required a fair amount of skill. It also depends on the difficulty level of the game since I usually put it on its lowest. Hiding in a haystack after evading a group of guards is pretty hilarious, though.

Maybe you've got some ninja blood in you Esperahol. Are you from the Hidden Leaf village? Though I was not a natural born stealth gamer like you, I have learned to adopt to it and enjoy what it has to offer. But still, it depends on the game. Manhunt for instance is a stealth game that I don't like.

Some people are really good at it, admittedly. It's not that I'm bad, per se, but I find the process of practicing at it to be nerve-wracking. It's also extremely frustrating to make it 90% of the way through a stealth section, only to make one minor mistake and have to start all over. I consider myself a patient person, but I've had to put down more than one game because of levels like that.

I absolutely love stealth games and when I find a good one I try to beat it as best I can as a ghost. If I play a stealth game where it gives me the option to never been seen or caught then I will attempt that challenge, I happen to be pretty good at most stealth games. Some of my favorite would have to be the Splinter Cell HD trilogy, Thief, Deus EX and a few others that are quite fun. But as I said I usually try to play a stealth game as stealthy as I can at least on the first playthrough.
