Well, I had it. I actually think I got my PS1 bundled with Tekken 3. And yes, it was somehow fun but it never really got me. There is always something missing in these games. Some more depth.

My second favorite fighting game of all time and probably the one I played the most. I remember asking my friends to play Soul Blade but no, they wanted Tekken and everyone wanted to play as King or Yoshimitsu for some reason. My favorite character (or rather the favorite fighter, don't think there was a any character development in the game) was Paul. A no nonsense, non-flashy character which did a lot more damage than those King bodyslams and Yoshimitsu teleportation tricks ever did.

This is actually my favorite Versus game for the PS1. I think it was a near perfect copy of its arcade counterpart. The fighting mechanics were deep but it allowed for beginners to go at it as well. I started out with spamming attacks over and over to memorizing ground combos to timing air juggles. Each character controlled differently and had a lot of moves at their disposal. Each character had an ending which prompted for multiple play throughs. There were different modes to play like Tekken Ball and Tekken Force modes. These were bonuses that made Tekken 3 even more appealing.

This is the installment that got me hooked on the whole franchise, so I will always remember it fondly. I got to play it once again during the early days of PS3 era, but at the time I've been so spoiled with the newer versions that I couldn't really get into this older one anymore. I suspect I could learn to enjoy it again now that more time has passed and I have even more feelings of nostalgia towards it, but I probably wouldn't play it nearly as obsessively as I once did.

Haha. I remembered the day when I was really amazed by this game's graphics. It was the best I have ever seen that time. And then PS2 came.

One of my all time favorite fighting games. I would run home from school every day just to beat the story mode with a different character and unlock the FMV movie. I loved all the crazy extra characters they had for that game. Remember Gon, the midget dinosaur?

I liked Yoshimitsu too when I was still starting out with the game. His sword thrusts were unblockable which is why I liked using him. I never got to like King because I'm not a person who likes to grab and throw. I eventually outgrew Yoshimitsu and moved on to Jin and Bryan. Their moves are fast and effective unlike the exaggerated moves of Yoshi.

Yep, also got it with my PS1 and i think i spent close to a few hundreds of hours on it. All that content, story mode, beachball mode, the beat em up mode... a really great entry in a great series!

I loved Tekken 3. I could see how you wouldn't love it if you were a hardcore fighting gamer. I don't think most 2D fighter have quite the depth that games like Street Fighter have.
With that said, I dumped hours into this game. I loved trying to get all the character, especially guys like Gon and Dr. B.

I think I missed out on part of the fun by not playing the beachball mode enough. I mean it felt totally ridiculous to me as a kid. Now, I can see it for the genius that it is.

I will never forget playing Tekken. Tekken is one of my favorite games of all time. It is one of the best fighting games in existence. I will never forget playing Tekken with my friends, it was also a competitive edge while playing Tekken.

They kind of ran with the idea after this though, particularly with DOA Beach Volleyball and its many sequels.

Tekken 2 was the first Tekken I played, but 3 was the s***. I was a little kid, so I'd just spam the controller most of the time, especially when I was frustrated, but it was still fun as hell. I was pretty happy when I bought Tekken 5 and found out it came with the first 3 Tekken games on-disc. Going back to 3, let alone the other 2, felt archaic, but it's definitely one of the tightest fighting games from that era of consoles.
