The announcement of the SteamOS

I'm not sure if this would go under PC gaming, seeing as Valve has just announced an Operating System that is fully intended for the living room and not the desktop. With two major Valve announcements upcoming in this week, speculation is rampant that they will finally announce a foray into the console gaming world.

So from I read from Valve's website, this is purely an OS. So what hardware is it going to run on? They mentioned it was Linux based so does that mean it can run on Android?

Details are pretty sketchy right now but it's definitely piqued my interest.

I still can't understand how will things work. Seeing how it's a Linux based Operative System, will the games that only run on Windows not run at all? Will it just be a way to stream your games to another part of your house. Will be waiting for further notices and a release date.

Yeah i really dont understand what Steam is planning with this. I think they just want to sell to the market of people who like playing games from their couch with a controller looking at a tv, instead of just selling strictly to PC gamers. Very interested to see what the finished product will be like.

Yeah, it's pretty vague at this point. The "SteamOS machine" makes it sound like a console sort of thing, but it mentions that it can run "on any living room machine", whatever that means. "Machine" isn't much to go by, but it's Valve, so I'm interested in hearing more.

...Tch. Until there is an actual console or something I'm just going to ignore this. I mean an OS is just a set of instructions until you have something to run it on. Oh, well. Hopefully they learned something from the ignoble death of the Ouya.

I think this will do much better than the Ouya. For one thing, they took care of making and expanding on the market first before moving forward, instead of the other way around which is how Ouya's doing it. Second, it may get a lot of backing, since I know that there are more than a handful Linux supporters out there, albeit probably still not enough as of now, but I think it's what companies like these are aiming to correct.
