The Loot Cave Is Done

Bungie finally killed the loot cave.

For those who don't know this cave was essentially a place where enemies spawned indefinitely so high level players would essentially stand outside and shoot at the cave for hours on end to farm high level drops.

I never used the loot cave, just because it seemed boring. Destiny is kind of repetitive anyways, but this is just too much. I'm glad it is shut down for people using this exploit to get a leg up on the rest of us. Thoughts?

How was this letting them get a leg up on anything? This game is not a competition in story mode, and crucible matches eliminate the gap made by leveling anyways. Loot farming is so people could see what they get for leveling up after 20, and the story is completed. This does not harm the person that wanted to play normally in any way. It no more boring then playing the same story missions over and over watching boring cut scenes.

IMO they should have left it alone. There are plenty of other farming locations, but those are in more busy parts of the maps. Now people are just going to go there instead of this cave in the back of a map that no one cared about unless they were farming. IMO let people play the game however they want to.

I see people boosting in crucible matches all the time, and they haven't seemed to do anything about that. IMO thats much worse then farming.

Contradiction. But whatever.

Any any rate, Bungie killed the loot cave by making drops more common. Grinding for loot in Destiny is incredibly tedious--especially when compared to other games. So they are making it easier so less people spend their time grinding for hours and more time actually experiencing the world. How is this a bad thing?

Not a contradiction at all. I was pointing out that they didn't do anything about boosting in PvP, but stopped farming in PvE. That makes no sense. Why punish one over the other. Boosting in PVP is worse because it actually hurts the other people trying to play the same match as the booster.

All this can be fixed by just ammending the drop ratio and how the loot system works. "I GOT A PURPLE DROP! OH NO ITS A BLUE WEAPON!" That's b.s. and I stopped playing on that merit alone. I do not have time to be teased.

I agree. Blue should = blue item or rare material. Purple should = legendary item or materials needed to upgrade a legendary weapon.

I understand WHY they did it... But if you do enough searching and develop a decent rotation pattern of where to go... you can still get quite abit of kills.

I was doing the 200 headshot Fallen for the Queen's bounty today.. In the 2 hours I was on the Moon, I racked up at least 15 greens, 5+ blues, and 2 legendary engrams.. that's not to count the assorted junk from the dozen plus chests I opened. Only one of those legendary engrams gave me a legendary item though (Scout Rifle, already had a Legendary Pulse rifle).

Funny thing is I've got more legendary items from blue engrams than I have legendary engrams. I don't mind though.

I think the hotfix just stops people from camping in one spot and shooting mobs over and over. Gotta make them work for it ;)

I tried to take advantage of the Loot Cave, but I got so bored that I went and did things in a more legitimate manner. I'm glad they axed it, but drops in the game are pretty terrible and annoying. Adjustments are definitely needed for loot and drops at this point. I have some pretty great weapons and armor, but there's nothing worse than completing a mission and getting absolutely nothing for it. Throw me a bone!

I don't think the drops are that bad... Does everyone else seriously have such bad ADD that they just need constant new shiny things to hold your attention?

Sorry I didn't catch that, there was a blinking light over there.

Seriously though, I don't think that was the reason behind a lot of peoples decision to use it. It was a quick and 'easy' (albeit incredibly boring) way of farming engrams.. More engrams at level 20 = more gear (Legedaries) and quicker leveling the Cryptarch. Just those elitests who want an easy way of getting their stuff.

I get tons of drops, but they are constantly downgraded when decoded. I'll get three blue engrams, and get two green weapons and a coin out of them. The coin is nice, but green weapons?... That's what drives me crazy.

I witnessed people using the loot cave, had no idea it had a name. I tried for a bit, but they had better accuracy with their guns, they were 20+ levels where as I am 7. I did my own killing just above the loot cave, they would spawn there as well, but it does get boring very fast. I did not stick around to even level up once doing this.

That just adds to the excitement and makes it more special when your items ends up being as awesome as you hoped..

Well for those who have not seen the upcoming patch notes..

Engrams will provide a minimum rarity of what the engram is. No more of this Legendary engram giving you a blue item.. Although it does add to the game that way, in my opinion. Again, old WoW player.. Farming for gear doesn't phase me. But it's nice knowing when you get a Legendary drop that you will get a Legendary! Have had only all but 2 Legendary Engrams be what they were supposed to be. Oh well :D

On a side note, got my Exotic chest piece today. Woop woop.

There is already a new loot cave which people are calling it loot cave 2.0. It is located at the Rocket yard on earth. IGN announced earlier today so I don't think it will last long till they patch that up.

Yeah that one works but still not as effective as the original. IMO you don't really need a cave anyways. Your best bet is to stay in the area that you come out of on your way to the rocket yard, and rotate between the fallen spawns killing them. You also get two public kill the walker events every hour, so its perfect.
