The scariest enemies you've ever faced in a Playstation game

The zombies in the original Resident Evil were pretty scary, mostly because the controls sucked haha. The dogs were creepy too

Oh my god, tank controls! Those were the worst. Everything about the first Resident Evil felt kind of mechanical to me. And the voice acting- simply legendary.

To stay more on topic, the scene where the dogs burst through the windows early in the game in the hallway on the right of the mansion was really startling and one of my fondest gaming memories. My girlfriend at the time was over playing for the first time and she screamed so loud when that happened! The only other time I've been that startled in a game was while playing Eternal Darkness. I won't say what happens because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't played it yet, however I highly recommend that game as well! It's on gamecube.

A selection of Silent Hill's creations have to be right up there. There was some enemies there that made me just want to say "...No!" and run away! For me, Pyramid Head still remains one enemy that genuinely gives me the creeps. That head, that sword...! My general reaction to seeing him was basically running as far away as you possibly could. I really didn’t like facing it.

Another one with similar levels of fear has surely got to be the Tyrant 103 from Resident Evil 2. The truly enormous, well built expressionless character wearing a grey/green trench coat. No, he wasn't fast. He was very slow, actually. He was pretty much silent too. Very mysterious, which added more fear. So, what was it about him that terrified me? He was relentless. He just didn't die by conventional methods! My friend called him a 'meathead'! If you got in his way, you knew about it. He'd take about two thirds of your health away in one hit and would totally floor you. It took about six grenade rounds or god knows how many shotgun shells to defeat him from memory. Good luck with finding all that ammo (and weapons) on the hardest difficulty setting... In confined rooms or corridors, you knew you were going to be in for a tough time or your own controllable extended death scene when he was around. He also made himself known in this guise in Survivor and The Darkside Chronicles, where Capcom give him some new moves. I'm probably going to be in a minority on this, but I stand by my opinion all these years later that I found him and still find him scarier than Nemesis from the third game.

Both these characters, still to this day, have to be the scariest enemies that I have faced in console gaming. There are some quality PC Horror games (most are indie) which have surpassed these now in my eyes but regardless of that, I will forever remember both Pryamid Head and the Tyrant 103 very fondly and in high reguard.

Pyramid Head. When I was a kid and I first played Silent Hill I had nightmares. First time I ever had nightmares from a game. I wasn't ready for Silent Hill.

I would say that the henchman i faced in the Hitman Contracts game were among the scariest enemies i have ever faced. They were always of ton of them around and if I blew my cover, they would shoot with rapid fire!

I find the scariest enemies in games are the ones that I'm not use to in a genre. Like there's zombies. Always zombies. If you play enough zombie oriented games, you shouldn't be creeped out by zombies at all--zombie dogs, hands that reach out of the wall, etc. Those are scary. It's "What the f*** is that?" scary.

Enemies that you don't expect are the scariest if you've been playing a series for a long time. You become familiar with the enemies in a series then all of a sudden here's this new enemy that is faster, stronger, or whatever. That's especially true in an era where the enemies aren't really put in instruction manuals anymore.

Oh and I agree on Pyramid Head.

I will also add that the enemies i faced in Tom Clancy Splinter Cell and the GTA games were scary enemies. I was a younger when I first started playing these games.

The scariest enemy I have ever encountered has got to be the lady boss from Fatal Frame II. There are sections where she would appear and chase you around, if she touches you the game is over. Whenever I see her I'll go "oh, crap!" and my heart beats faster and my hands sweat. Describing it now gives me the chills, makes me want to replay the game.

The scariest enemy in a game I've faced was Malfunctioning Maintenance Droids in Star Wars the Old Republic MMO -heck it takes 16 Mighty Sith Lords to kill one

For me it has to be anything from the Silent Hill games. I'm actually fine with horror films, but because of the terrifying enemies, and the atmosphere of these games, I've never actually been able to last more than a couple of hours playing the games, and have never completed one. I really should look into a replay at some point though!

Nemesis, from Resident Evil 3! This guy would pop out of nowhere, and basically force you into a boss battle on the spot. The whole game had you on edge, and very afraid due to his presence alone. Truly the boss of all bosses.
