The scariest games you've played.

What are the scariest games you've ever played on the consoles? I remember when I first played Silent Hill, I couldn't get past the first enemy because it the environment was scary as hell but it isn't the scariest game. The scariest games for me is probably the Fatal Frame trilogy on the PS2 with Fatal Frame 3 being the most horrifying.

Probably Silent Hill 2 because it was the first real horror game I played alone and in the dark, most others were with friends or in broad daylight, so it got to me a lot easier. I can not really think of many more because I often do not play many horror games seeing as I feel most to be the same when I play them; they are just dull to me.

I agree with you two above. Silent hill was the scariest game I have ever played. I almost got creeped out at times when I played it. But it felt good when I finally beat the game. lol

Silent hill for me, but dead space was very scary in parts. The end bit I jumped out of my seat.

The first two Dead Spaces were scary for me. In many instances, I would be sitting at the edge of my seat. Not to mention I prefered to play them at night with the lights off

Still got to be RE:1 on the PS1. I used to play it in the dark which added to the effect.

Parasite Eve creeped me out on the PS1, but Elvira: Mistress of the Dark has some of the scariest scenes on PC, such as the vampire in the bedroom, the farmer turning into a werewolf, the eyes in the maze, and the monster with the stone. Of course, I cannot forget the monster in the treasure chest which comes to get you if you open it with the keys in the incorrect order.

For me, Silent Hill 2, closely followed by the original game have to probably rank as the scariest I've played on a console, with probably Resident Evil 2 with the Tyrant 103 (which still gives me shivers…) as third. I remember the very first time I played the original Silent Hill. It was around my best friend’s house with another slightly 'lesser' friend. My best friend was controlling the game and I distinctly remember cringing in fear when you’re cornered by those critter things at the start and can't escape from them. I still remember him saying something along the lines of "What the…! There wasn't a way I could escape…! There's no way you can get out of that!" when the screen went blank before realising that was supposed to happen!

Some may laugh but the original Tomb Raider had some tense moments in the 'Natla's Mines' level. There was a bizarre level towards the end of the second game which used to give me the chills – 'Floating Islands' I think it was called… I probably got my fear of cliff edges and falling from this very level!

I have to be honest, I find today's PC games (sandbox/indie) are a step ahead of just about anything I've played in this genre over a console equivalent for the past few years. Especially since the Resident Evil series has essentially been diluted into just yet another FPS…

I'm not into the scary ones, never have even played one. Violence and mayhem is more what I am after at this point, they really reduce my stress after another tough day at work.

I find Dead Space 2 scarier. I have yet to beat it.

I still feel as if they early Resident Evil games are the scariest simply because of the wonky camera controls. I think we can all agree that this is what the new games in the franchise are missing--bad camera controls.

Some of the scariest games I have ever played were those of the penumbra series. The series is lodes with scares that make you want I stop playing it because you can't even enjoy yourself, you are just too damn scared. What make the games even scary is that you can't even kill your enemies half of the time.

Alan Wake is the only horror/thriller/mystery game I have played, got scared of (a little bit), and loved. The gameplay and story are just spectacular.

As an adult I don't know if any game has ever really scared me.

As a kid I found the redeads in Ocarina of Time super scary, does that count?

The hospital level in bioshock scared the crap out of me. I'm really easy to scare, honestly. There are a lot of games and movies I've never finished. I did finish bioshock, though.

I never played dead island after seeing the trailer. Seemed like it'd be too disturbing for me. The kid probably did it, I think.

edit- I didn't actually play any of those on consoles, but only had a PC at the time.

Seriously, Deadspace 1 made me change my underpants a few times. The first 10 minutes of Alan Wake actually made me put the controller down and walk away, gather myself to carry on.

I found it scary in Tomb Raider that a group of men, stranded on an island all alone, would want to kill a woman on sight.

Parasite Eve 2 traumatized me as a kid, man. That scene in which the woman transforms into a monster... and the ugliness of the creatures themselves... I think they were like birds with human faces? That specific combination kills me, freaky as hell.

Then again, I was a kid back then, it might not disturb me that much now, but I've never gone back to those games (I've been meaning to). Last horror game I played was Lone Survivor on my Vita, sitting in the dark with headphones on and it really did nothing to scare me, but it was a pretty good game.
