Underwhelming graphics?!?

Hello,

I just bought a PS5 digital ed which came with God of War Ragnarok.

I have a 1080p 144hz TN panel monitor and when I put the game on "graphics mode", the game felt very laggy/choppy. On performance mode, the game was smooth but the graphics felt very underwhelming.

Isn't this console capable running even 8k, and 4k 120hz? Why does it feel such poor performance on a 1080p monitor? Also when I put 'graphics mode' vs 'performance mode', I didn't really feel any difference in the game graphics, just gameplay turned really choppy or slow comparing to when on performance mode. This game was released in 2022, and feels like almost released in 2013 instead because the graphics really feel this underwhelming and disappointing..

Right from the start-up my console downloaded all the updates so I am sure there isn't any driver issues. Please advise!

You probably have HDMI 1.0 plugged in. You need a TV with HDMI 2.1 to take full advantage of the actual PlayStation 5. Look at all the specs of the PS5, and understand what you can get out of it, and what you can't.

God of War Ragnarok looks FANTASTIC even on PS4. The thing is, GoW Ragnarok on PS5 is basically a cross-gen title, so you won't get 100% out of PS5 yet. Most games are like this, because we are in the "cross-gen" period. Games that are DESIGNED with PS5 in mind are the ones you're looking for. Final Fantasy 16 was designed with PS5 in mind. It's timed exclusive to PS5, but will eventually come to Xbox Series consoles, but here's the thing - Xbox Series X is held back by S. So, at the end of the day, that PS5 you have? Its the best deal in gaming at the moment.

Spiderman 2 is also exclusive to PS5, and is designed with PS5 in mind. There's no PS4 version.

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for clarifying this out for me. As the game progressed, it's beginning to look far better now in graphics than how it initially began.

I did a little research and found out that my monitor has 1.4 HDMI and I have Acer GN246HL.

I also happen to have a DVI to HDMI cable, will try that as well to see if I can possibly get 120hz, but right now the game feels really smooth on 'performance setting' and truly feels like I might actually be getting 120hz already.

I am planning on getting LG OLED C2 - 55" to pair with my PS5, I am sure that should blow me away completely as I am quite enjoying GoW as of now on 1080p since the story progressed and graphics dont look half bad :)
