Vertical or horizontal

Was wondering what people think about having a console vertical or horizontal with regards to heat. I've got my ps4 vertical as my first ps3 was horizontal and got ylod. My first 360 was horizontal and got rrod. My second 360 was a slim and was vertical which I never had a problem with after 2 years. But...... My friend has an original ps3 (60g with the 4 usb ports on the front) which he's had since launch and it still works fine. So do certain models last better or is it just luck. What do you all think and what are your experiences.

With my ps4, I have it horizontal only due to the space that was available on the stand for it. I did notice that it does tend to get warm in the back area..

I feel that the console is more "safe" when it is on the horizontal, so all my consoles were all placed like that. haha

I keep all my consoles in horizontal position. I had my Xbox 360 standing vertically and accidentally knocked it with my foot, I was able to catch it in time, but the disc got scratched. Ever since then, I always kept it horizontal position.

My original PS3 which was a fat 80G was vertical and I never had an overheating issues. My slim which I had to have horizontal did become quite hot so I had to effectively put my PS3 side ways instead of forward so that it wouldn't over heat.

The Sony one? Only asking cause if people dont use a stand with vents on it,it will block the PS4 vents,as will not using a stand ofcourse too.
Not sure if all 3rd party stands have vents,I recently bought a 3rd party one on ebay for cheap but it does have vents. (Hasnt arrived in post yet though)

Worried now where are the vents I can't figure it out from pictures on the Internet my stand don't seem to have them. The front and back doesn't seem to be blocked just like the official one. This picture seems to be exactly like the one I have.

Horizontal. I just feel like the console is designed to be that way, and vertically is more of a show-offy kinda thing. As others mentions there's more chance of it getting knocked over, and putting a disc in can be a pain. I can't remember what console, but vertically it would mess up some discs too. Just not worth it.

Ah yes,I was looking at that one but cause I didnt see any vents I decided against it.
I found a cheap one on ebay and bought that.
Arrived today.Fits good,2 rubberised pads on it and is vented,and one side is slanted open so as to direct any air out the side. Nice.

Horizontal. To nervous it will fall. It's about 4 feet off the ground which would cause serious damage of an accident happens.

I have mine at horizontal. Not as much due to heat and ventilation issues but I think the BR drive could last longer. I'm thinking that having it horizontal provides better stability and less vibration when the drive is spinning but I might be wrong.

Ok after reading all this I have changed to horizontal on a different computer desk which gives ps4 alot more open space around it. With that I will try not to think anymore about overheating issues as it's becoming an obsession.

I've laid every console I've had horizontally except for the 360. I'd prefer that is be horizontal though. Sitting a console vertically just seems like you're asking for it to be knocked over, really.

I keep mine horizontal. On my setup, I can't do it vertical because it won't fit in the tv stand and where my PS3 is, it would block my TV. I to be honest would rather have them vertical. Always liked that look. But I just don't have the space. Not worried about them getting knocked over by how I have my setup. I wouldn't hit it with my foot or anything.

I keep all of my consoles horizontal simply because I feel better not having to worry about them falling over and I have never had a problem with them over heating, might be because they tend to be separate and in open areas, but that's just my experience seeing as you have had terrible problems when horizontal.
