Violent Video Games And The Perception That Comes With It

Do you think it is fair when the media demonizes violent video games, trying to claim that they have a negative influence that encourages people to act violent? I think the gaming industry is a scapegoat! If a person commits an act of aggression or violence, that person is solely responsible. Wether they got the idea to act in a violent way because of a game they played is irrelevant! They chose to be violent! They used their own free will to act out.

I think in almost all cases its unfair.
I think for someone to do something bad because of playing video games there would have to be something wrong with them in the first place.
Sometimes movies are blamed but games more so cause of the interactivity.

Most places have an R18 rating for games,so not to be sold and AFAIK not to be even played by younger people.
GTA V is defo one such game,the swearing is the least of it,the hookers,the violence and even torture bits.Kids should defo not play this and if they do I blame the parents mostly.

I think it is different for everyone. Some may be sensitive to what they are seeing on the screen, and yet some will play the game with no influence on their behaviour. I really think it's a bit naive to suggest that everyone is the same when it comes to this. The subconcious mind is constantly being targeted and implanted with various suggestions and idealogies, but how this transfers to the conscious mind I think is where it depends on the person.

How about the guy that watched queen of the damned over and over then eventually turned to kill his friend and eat piece of his heart? I'm sure a violent game could have had a similar effect on him, again I think it just depends on the person but for the most part it probably doesn't have a dramatic impact on the majority of players. Children are of course more susceptible to violence and such and I think it's more likely to have a damaging effect if they are not very mature.

It isn't fair at all. It is all entertainment. You can do almost anything in the movies and it is fine. But in the gaming and music industry, violence is a taboo. There is no such thing as self responsibility any more I guess.

I think that they.should stop trying to use video games as an excuse for bad parenting. If a parent can't teach their child the.differences between real.and fake, then they don't need to be letting their kids play violent games. They are the ones in control of what their kids play and they need to start acting like it. They need to takr responsibility for their part in the violence their kid chooses to do. Like what was said earlier a person has the choice of whether they want to be violent or not.

Good point. Millions and millions of people have played violent games. A handful of those people have been violent. I know those incidents are tragic, but it is not right to judge an entire group of people based off a few bad apples. The bigger issue like you said is parenting.

Excellent point about bad parenting. Parents need to take resposibility for the behavior of their kids. Get involved and do your job!

Bad parents make for bad kids, I think. You could probably leave a loaded gun in front of a well raised child (not that you should) and nothing would happen, but the slightest tap in the mind of a troubled child will send him or her into a tailspin, but of course the parents would prefer to sooner blame everyone else before themselves.

I agree. Bad parents are ultimiately repsonsible for how their kids turn out. I just get so fustrated with the media always bringing up the gaming industry when people engage in violent rampages. I play violent video games and i am as non-violent as it gets.

People need to take an interest in their kids lives. Video games aren't the reason. How many people play games and come out okay? That number definitely far outweighs those that don't. Also, there was a ton of violence waaaaay before video games were invented...what was the reason for that.

Sucks people aren't focusing on helping their children and paying attention. They just shove them in front of a TV and expect them to be okay. Take the time and an interest in what your kids are doing.
