What other ways to play ps3 games on ps4?

For people who went PS2 to PS3 to PS4 I imagine it doesn`t matter. I went PS2 to 360 to PS4 and given the PS4s success I`m sure many others did the same, so it`s a little disappointing but I also wasn`t really expecting it to be able to. I`m a huge MGS fan and still haven`t played MGS4 and it was a little annoying to see the PS3 get the huge MGS collection that was recently released but doesn`t seem to be planned for PS4.

Didn't you need a special adapter for that? I'm pretty sure (4 year old me) remembers it couldn't do it out of the box. There is a very real chance I'm wrong... Sega does what Nintendon't I guess.

You did. However the point is that not only was it possible, but many other consoles around that time allowed you to play games from an earlier generation. Hell, the Gameboy line lived on this concept. You could even play NES games on the SNES with an attachment.

To say that backwards compatibility is something that came along with the PS1 and the only proponants of it are people who had this as their first console is just downright wrong.

Is it that much of an ordeal to just keep out the old PS3 along with your PS4? I have enough room and I have one of the fatties.

I will admit it would be nice to play PS3 games with the comfortable new DS4. Soooo much better in everything but battery life.

You can still do this but the DS4 needs to be be connected with the USB cable to PS3.Most games should work ofcourse buttons may be slight different.

Well, I can't speak for 'everyone', but considering the only difference between a PS3 game and the PS4 games would be a minor software change, yes I'd call them out on releasing an adapter as just a cash grab. There's a huge difference between say, releasing an adapter to allow for NES games to played on the SNES, since you know, the cartridges are totally different shape and sizes. However, there's no difference between a PS4 disk and a PS3 disk. The only thing keeping you from playing a PS3 game on your PS4 is that Sony has told the console that its not playable.

I guess this is a lesson to be learned: always keep your old consoles.
You're most likely not going to get much money out of selling them used anyway, so you might aswell keep them in case you'd ever want to play any "old" games.

I wish I had kept my N64... But for some reason I gave it away. Oh snap, I learned a lesson for sure, and now I'm never going to get rid of any console that is still in tact/working, even if a newer model comes out, I'll just save it around just in case.

It's great that they have PS Now atleast, I mean... It's better than nothing, right?

Understanding the technical restrictions of why neither next-gen console plays the previous gen games is key.

To move forward, by the leaps and bounds the PS4 has done so (and to a much lesser degree, what the Xbox One has done so), you need to break the rulebook each time.

PS4 and PS3 have a different architecture, and it's simply not possible to play (or even emulate games). What Sony have come up with is the best solution possible, as it's totally platform agnostic, and means PS5 will be compatible with PS4 and PS3 games when it launches in another 10 years.

At least Sony have a solution, which is more than Microsoft are offering.

For what it's worth, I'm REALLY pleased with my PS4, it's amazing.

Yea, the only way so far is to use PS Now. But my friend was talking about rooting it and modding his PS4 to make it compatible. I have no idea on this, but he is a hardware engineer and he says it can be done. I will keep you posted on his success or failure.

The only way as of now and for the foreseeable future is PSNow, you'll have to just plug in your PS3 console if you still have it and you don't want to use PSNow.

Am I the only person whose PS3 is on top of my PS4 with the controllers side by side on the coffee table?

I have both systems so I have never used PSNow. All I have to do is switch the HDMI cable in the back of my TV and I'm good to go. I wish that Sony did allow backwards compatibility but I'm sure if they could they would have. The PS4 is hugely superior to the PS3 in specs and there is probably some technical reason why. In the future I can see myself buying PS3 games on PSNow, but only if I don't have them already on the PS3.

PSNow is pretty much it. Until either they develop some sort of software emulator that's all there is.
