Whatever happened to the PSx?

My memory on this is a bit sketchy but didn't Sony release something called PSX in Japan back in the day which integrated a video recorder with the PS2. I heard that they had plans for a worldwide release depending on it success in Japan. Whatever happened to that? Has anyone here ever used it?
