What's your occupation?

I'm a Social Media Community Manager for an Internet services company.

Really enjoyable stuff. Always busy, fast paced, meet loads of cool people ... I'm hoping to build a career in this industry for sure!

I'm hoping to expand into my own business which my goal is this year (though said the same thing last year but circumstances didn't happen). What stinks is starting a business and trying to get my bills paid while starting up. And the cost of living in my state is kinda ridiculous.

Oh, trust me, I know how challenging it is to get started, especially with photography because it's such an expensive business to get going. What do you shoot with? I'm a Canon girl. 5dMKIII at the moment.

As far as starting up, if you have a portfolio, just work on getting a website with your work going. That's relatively inexpensive. If you don't have a portfolio (since you're working for someone else), work on getting a portfolio of your own! PM me if you want to talk more :)

So I do that on occasion next to teaching. The main things I took away from my time at 3D animation school was sound editing, writing/scripts, and voice acting.

Before teaching I was a bouncer for that summer. It was more eventful than teaching, the money was better, but teaching is more rewarding, and it allows for more computer time to do nothing.

I took classes in college for 3d design as well. I quickly decided that I'd rather play the video games as opposed to make them. Hence the reason I'm a photographer. Instant gratification :) I definitely enjoy storyboarding a concept out and putting it together from scratch though.

Haha. Its definitely difficult. I had a kid come in my store asking all sorts of questions on how to be a pro photographer. I didn't sugarcoat it. I told him it was difficult and involves 100% dedication but I also told him the payoff is worth it. I also told him my story and how to get his foot in the door and to keep being persistent.

Problem is because I always have worked for someone else, I don't own the rights to use them for a portfolio. So my portrait portfolio is lacking. Though my nature portfolio is bursting, lol. I just took my website offline because I think it could be better. My girlfriend has ideas so I'm gonna have her do it, lol.

Good thing is my job interview went very well and its outside my career path so it opens things up to me that are closed at the moment. So I'll have a set schedule and weekends off that I can do shoots and grow my business. Problem is I signed a noncompete and my schedule is weekly and inconsistent at my current job. I never know when I work so I can't do anything on the side. Scheduling appointments is impossible and I'm the lead photographer so I have to have open availability.

I think you and me can be friends. I'm a Canon shooter as well :D I use a 7D and love it. Want to get a 5DMkIII eventually. Other than that I have a 50mm 1.4 prime lens, a 70-300 telephoto and a 28-135 zoom. Also have a 580EXII, background system that is good for a mobile studio and so far 2 AlienBee B800s (getting a 3rd and maybe a 4th for hair and background lights. probably B400s). I think I'm close to a 10,000 investment? Probably less. I suck at math :)

Nothing special to report from me… I left high school during the summer of 2001 and was employed within three weeks or so of finishing my exams.

I started working for a firm about two miles away from home and worked there for nine years. I consider myself very fortunate to find something so close. I done a mixture of things – accounts and general sales administration duties. Occasionally I'd get to go out on deliveries and ferrying the odd important customer around. As the years progressed I started to help look after the company vehicle fleet. I was made redundant in 2010 as the recession meant the company had gone from having six depots to two in the space of about two and a half years. I'm still in touch with a few people who work there via Facebook.

I started my current job in October 2010. A similar role but I no longer get involved in the accounts any more. The pay is a little better but at least two thirds of that was absorbed immediately by having to drive further out. My official title is 'Sales Administrator' even though I don't really get involved all that much on the sales side of things… The bulk of my job is ensuring what comes in from suppliers is correct, getting it booked in and making sure what does out is correct . It's more like a logistics role than anything else. I also get more involved with ordering than I did in my previous job.

Nope, the pay isn't particularly brilliant in either job, well below national average, but at least the people are friendly, it's steady/predictable, it's reasonably low risk and pays the bills. I don't particularly cope with stress too well. I'm very much of the "better the devil you know" school!
 
Well I'm not currently employed, I am a student at university, and I'm majoring in Intrnational Relations, I hope one day I can become an Ambassador or work at an INGO out of the UN, that is my ambition, but I really want a job where I get to travel alot., whatever it may be.
 
Im in the building/construction industry.Residential homes. I wont say what exactly though at the moment :o
 
Just left the Royal Air Force after doing 12years as a Radar Operator,, now working as an assistant manager for a fishing company,,,might be going back into the forces tho in a bit to do security,,,enjoying life as a civvy at the moment tho,,, so more chilled.
 
I'm a student in my final year, studying International Relations, real smart huh? like theres a huge market for that in this economy...
 
Everyone else has cool jobs, me? I'm a chef, exciting huh? My wife is a Doctor though, at least someone in my family is a success lol

Being a chef sounds like a pretty good gig to me. That's something I've always wanted to do if I had the time and patience in the kitchen haha. I love to cook
 
I actually make money a few different ways. I do some part time telemarketing selling credit card insurance over the phone. I also do some internet marketing. I promote Clickbank products and do some selling on Craigslist. I'm going to have my own website soon. You can never have too many income streams. I'm always trying to think of more ways to make more money!
 
Currently a college student, on my way to becoming a lawyer. I've been smart however and have been working on a lawyer job while still in college, and am gonna get one right after college, making $100k/year.
