Whoever said that graphics is not important?

I'm mildly interested in the visual capabilities of the new generation, but that's only because the jump doesn't seem like it would be big enough to be amazed at, such as the surprise we got comparing the PS2 graphics and the PS3's. When it comes to appreciating graphics, I'm a bit in the middle of it. I don't think it's that graphics don't matter, when you hear gamers say what they say about graphics, but it's that some games or companies seem to put their focus on it so much that the gameplay ends up patchy, although admittedly I have a hard time coming up with any particular game that I would say suffers from this. Most good games usually have good graphics and gameplay, while the bad ones are bad on both.

Of course when you're buying a new console you're aiming to get not just, but also, better graphics, it's evident.
But, if the game does have awesome, never seen graphics, and the gameplay is awful you won't be able to enjoy it, we need a combination of both.

I usually don't care as much about the graphics on the console games because the PC will always have better graphics. The reason why I would buy a console is because of my friends would buy one. Also it would because of the console exclusive games that would be on the console or the ones where they release the console games faster than the PC counterparts.

Graphics will always play a big role for me, but it is not the only deciding factor. I also value things like a game's story, re-play value, game play, etc.. As for the PS4 I am getting it for what should result in improved graphics, larger playable maps, faster load times, improved inter-action (video camera), etc..

I may have been one of those gamers. Graphics are definitely important. However, the best looking game visually will still suck if the game play and story line suck, bottom line. Would you play an incoherent, uncontrollable mess? probably not, no matter how good it looked

As I've said in other threads I'm a big fan of PS4 and this is the reason why I will buy it. I've also encountered gamers that cherish gameplay more than graphics, but everyone has his own opinion in the end of the day. I'll go for a PS4, because it's cheaper, it's design is more eye-pleasing and it's slightly better in terms of techs.

Sometimes you do not want to admit it, but the graphics are just as important as the gameplay. If I buy the PS4 on for overall development, better fluidity and ***ets of this kind.

I expect a lot from this console.
There was a time when it was not giving too much importance to the graphics of a game Our goal is to have fun.

Developers know this, but the problem is that it does not change in graphics, players will say that there is no change between the two games.

There are not just COD evolution. In short, the graphics and gameplay are all important, but our goal is to have fun.

Honestly, I don't think they are. I appreciate good graphics, but if I have enough time to sit and look at the environments while I'm playing, then the gameplay clearly isn't engaging enough (depending on the genre of course - an RPG would be excused in that sense). Besides, the improvements haven't been that noticeable between PS4 and PS3, at least from what I've seen. The launch titles look slightly better than the best looking games of the last generation, but that's what you'd expect. Even the Wii U has games that look slightly better than last gen titles.

I dunno, maybe I'm different to most people when it comes to graphics, but I'd much rather developers focused on gameplay over graphics. Taking into account how many companies are struggling to make money, it doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment to focus huge portions of the budget on ever so slightly improving the graphics.

I'm not saying that a new console shouldn't be more powerful - of course it should - but people are expecting far too much from them. I think it could put both Sony and Microsoft in a tight situation a few years down the line. If they continue to try and one-up each other, they're going to reach a point where the consoles are far too expensive for the average consumer, and far too expensive to develop for. While Nintendo are far from competing in terms of power with the Wii U, it's at least sustainable in the long run. While a part of me is excited to see what can be done this generation, I'm also worried about the consequences of pushing for power.

Graphics can be important I guess but that never really mattered to me. I'm cool with new and shiny but gameplay always comes first to me. It's why I actually love my Wii U. I don't need a shiny paperweight. I'm sure that I'm going to be happy with my PS4 (when I get it), I know I'll love a lot of the games but if they don't play well and tell a story then I don't care how it looks. Consoles should always strive to improve but I don't need them to push so hard that I can't afford to buy them anymore.

Graphics should be a huge thing on anyone's mind when purchasing a new console! I know the PS4 has great graphics however so I base my decision in the end on the games that come on it. And seeing as how both the PS4 and the XBOX One have different games in the end I decided to go with them both. However if one of them would have been lacking in the graphics department I more then likely would have passed.

Seeing as the PS3 looked pretty damn well, look at Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. That game was graphically beautiful! A lot of game devs know how to utilize the power of a console and since the PS4 is pretty damn powerful, I cannot wait to see what more they can accomplish.

It's funny because for FPS gamers, graphics are only important up to a point. Yeah we appreciate being able to see enemies, but game developers are pushing the envelope trying to develop these super lush environments and almost photo quality faces on characters. It's just not necessary when you're spraying bullets and blowing sh*t up.

Graphics will always be important but they shouldn't be the be all-end all of why you purchase a game or console. Remember the phrase 'appearances can be deceiving"? Just look at Beyond: Two Souls, it's an amazing to look at game, one of the best looking games graphically of this generation but you'll either love it or hate it. Don't let graphics get in the way of enjoy gameplay.

im one of those that says graphics arent as important as gameplay. By that i dont mean to say i dont care about graphics at all. I mean that who cares if you have the best graphics in the world if your game is a piece of crap?

Games with high quality visuals are taxing on a system, especially if the developer doesnt know how to properly harness and optimize everything.

A good developer who makes a GREAT game with good graphics can make a GREAT game with even BETTER graphics on a newer console or system with better hardware.

THATS why new consoles are important, not because everyone only cares about graphics instead of gameplay, but because great developers can make EVEN BETTER looking games that are ALSO a blast to play.

I think we all 'mainly' getting it for better visuals.
Would you get a PS3.5 if it has the same features of the PS4 but same graphics as PS3? I doubt it.

If it was cheaper I would buy the 3.5 ten times out of ten.

There are some beautiful games out there but some of them aren't always the most playable ones. The best games I've ever played have had inferior graphics to the most modern advancements.

I say it's important for aesthetics but they're just that: aesthetic. Not indicative at all of how much time I will be willing to put into it.

So much this. From what I've seen the games are impressive but that doesn't mean that their any good. Knack looks amazing but it's average at best. Everyone likes good graphics but you know what's more important to me at least, is the actual game. If doesn't play well then I'm not interested no matter how shiny.
