Will the PS4 lack of backwards compatability stop your day 1 purchase?

I just read an article about the PS4 not having backwards compatability with the PS3 and it got me thinking about if its a Day 1 purchase or not.
I mean I love my PS3 and play Call of Duty or Battlefield nearly every day so, I suppose for me a game like this must be available on release of the ps4 because I don't want to be swapping consoles over during a gaming session.
So what do you guys think?

Even though I won't be getting the PS4 on Day 1, if I were - no. It wouldn't stop me from purchasing the PS4. I'd just keep my PS3. Just like I did with my PS2.

I wasn't planning on getting it on day 1 anyway, but this will definitely make me wait for a "Slim" version of the console or something that will let me play my PS3 games on this damn thing.

My thing is, they'll probably do what they did with the PS3. First few models will have backwards compatibility, then a few models later, POOF! But no. I'd just keep my PS3, along with my PS2 and enjoy the insane graphics on the next gen console. Just my opinion though.

Like someone else said, I wasn't planning on purchasing the PlayStation 4 on Day one anyway, not with their history of first generation over heating and failure rates. However, the lack of Backwards Compatibility on some of the PlayStation 3 models is the reason why it's been taking me so long to get a new one, seeing as only two models support Backwards Compatibility. I know that all of them technically do with a firmware update, but it only plays some titles and a lot of them are very, very buggy. In reply to GoosooDude, PlayStation 4 will have no Backwards Compatibility until later down the road, and even then we don't have a specific date for when we'll get it, or what games it'll be able to support.

Not really. But I too won't buy on day one. I plan to wait for Christmas time. I get holidays off most of the time around here, so I'll have more time to play it, test features, check out the hardware and stuff. I don't see why I should buy when I don't have time to enjoy it or learn about it through playing it.

Backwards compatibility isn't what prevents me from buying at day 1, even though I never would do it anyway. It won't even prevent me from buying it ever. The only thing that really has been preventing me from buying PS products is the lack of games. It's what made me hold off from buying the PS3 back then when it was more expensive, and it's what's preventing me from buying the PSVita now. This one looks promising though, so I am a bit more optimistic that I'll buy it sooner than later.

I would wait until there was a reasonable selection of PS4 games beyond the initial launch titles on the market before buying it whether it had backwards compatibility or not. Will save me a pretty reasonable amount of money for hardly any downside, as the launch titles aren't typically that great anyway and I won't mind having to wait to play them.

That would suck, but it wouldn't stop me from buying it.
It depends on the reviews, the overall design and gameplay of the ps4, not because of one feature that I need.

I wasn't implying on getting the PS4 right away anyway. I think the price will just be too high for me to be able to afford. I will probably wait at least a year after the release date before considering buying the console. Is no backwards compatibility actually confirmed? or is it just a rumour. I think it's really disappointing if the PS4 will not be able to play PS3 games, it just means we need two consoles sitting around, and that's kind of stupid.

I'm not really into backwards compatibility. It diminishes the value of a gaming console in my opinion. If I want to play a PS3 game, then I would use my PS3. I'm purchasing a PS 4 whether it is backwards compatible. I'm not purchasing it on launch day though. I'd wait until there's a price drop.

Yes, I was really really hoping to be able to play my PS3 games, instead of switching consoles entirely when I want to play one game or the other. They are well more than capable of being able to have backwards compatibility, they have the technology.
