Would you like an open world BF game?

Well, all the devs seems to be getting more inclined towards open-word games nowadays. It's cliche now as every other dev is doing it. It wouldn't be surprising if EA will go for it with their next BF game. Would you play it?

I doubt anybody would object to it, but it's unlikely to happen. If it were to happen, they would need to get it right, otherwise there would probably a lot of issues with lag online. And if it would be singleplayer only, that would be more feasible.

Yeah, I was talking about mainly SP gameplay here. An open world setting would be amazing, no?

An open world Battlefield 5?
That seems odd to me. I'm not sure how missions and such will work. FPS's have different agendas from let's say Grand Theft Auto. I think there's always going to have to be "restrictions". It's an interesting idea and would definitely be original for the genre though.

It'd be interesting, but honestly I already have enough trouble navigating some of the maps in Battlefield 3 in a timely manner. Having it be even bigger and more open just sounds like more trouble than it's worth to me.

The one thing I hate about most games these days is that they push me into a certain direction. I have to follow the script they laid out. A more open world means more freedom and I am all for that.

How would that even work? You would just walk into a match? Because it's already pretty good the way it is, if you want to ruin the series even more, just go with a free to play model of game.

Not everything works with everything else - open world would be a very, very bad idea for this type of game. The point of this kind of FPS (versus say Borderlands) is that you are following a script, and so you aren't meant to be wandering about while the Free World burns or whatever. Honestly, it'd be less of an experience if done this way.

Sorry I don't think Battlefield would match good with the open world genre.
Except if they take more adventure or RPG elements into it which I highly doubt they ever would.

The thing with FPS games are that some of them have a linear story and they focus a lot on MP match systems. Also most FPS games are more arena like you know maps were they are going all out against each other stuff like that.
Open World games fits more with RPG and Action games in forms of more than just shooting. There need to be several paths and goals in open world games else they gets boring in the long run.

This is just my opinion.

I think you are right. We certainly don't want to roam around the streets with no one in the sight to shoot in the face. That would be downright boring.

I don't think it would be good, we have games like Arma that are open world shooter's and they don't seem to be doing that well popularity wise but maybe if they adapt it could become a nice idea. Doing some group missions with your squad could be really cool like saving people or finding a package that was air dropped before a enemy squad gets it.

I don't think it would be a good idea honestly.. It would be pretty boring if nobody was trying to kill you the whole time! :p

A very interesting, yet odd idea. I really can't imagine Battlefield being an open world game, due to some of its main mechanics. Nevertheless, the nearest thing I can think of is Planetside 2. Although its not that open, I could still consider it as an open world game.

In addition, great inventions come from weird thoughts ;).

As long as the open world has a use. Not just to walk around shooting and blowing stuff up. Having a plan and a reason keeps things in order. It gives the game a purpose. If its done right, then I'd be for it.

HIGHLY Agree with this. There are some open-world games that does this, but manage to pull it off perfectly. *I'm looking at you, Grand Theft Auto.* I'm not so sure if it'll work out with the Battlefield-ish environment.

If they limited the size of squads to 6 people and made them work together too complete missions around the map versus other squads ( how many as the server is capable of handle ). Then they would just receive orders to capture outposts and the squad who could get it would have access to new weapons and vehicles. If the outpost already belonged to someone their objective would be to defend it for a certain time.

Why would there be lag issues?

Why would there be lag issues?

If they mess up the optimization, it could quickly turn into lagfest, especially with the amount of elements and detail a typical BF match involves. I'd throw my wallet so hard at the screen for something more "MMO-like" with free roaming gameplay though.

Even if youre talking single player, most FPS have some sort of mission going on, since theyre usually military based or story line based. Open world doesnt work when youre supposed to be following orders. I think its a bad idea too.
