Your Opinion of DMC

I stopped playing video games for a while and keeping updated with new releases and have only picked up on it again recently. I saw DMC and was happy that they are still making games for this title, as it was always one of my favorites ever since I first played Devil May Cry (the first one, because the second one was crap).

However, I was surprised to read a lot of hate comments concerning this game, because from the previews and little gameplay I've seen, it seems to be true to form and respectful of the original. Am I mistaken in assuming this? I've even read some comments calling this new character Donte as a jest for being so crappy supposedly. I just wonder if this hate is justified in your opinion or not.

I myself don't care much for character accuracy (in terms of being similar to the original) nor do I care much about story lines and dialogue, which were the most prevalent complaints of all. My question is, besides these "faults" are there any more that made fans hate it so much, or is it mostly just nostalgia talking in your opinion?

My opinion is fans hate it because of pure nostalgia.

I've played a couple of hours of the game and it's honestly not that bad. The gameplay is great and fun if a little over the top but that's the fun of it. I suppose it would be the redesign of Dante that would tick most people off. I remember when the game was first announced and they released an image of the new Dante that everybody hated it and started calling him "emo-Dante". But in game, Dante was pretty good. I liked him and the characters.

I say if you enjoyed the past DmC games, this one should be a no-brainer :)

Some people don't like change. Maybe fans of the series were surprised to see a new look Dante. Maybe they were expecting a same look but enhanced Dante. The complete makeover of the beloved protagonist made the fans cry foul. I personally have no problems with the new look Dante. He's still cool and he's more bad ass than ever.

I love it. Takes me back to those great hack and slash, run around and kill every last mofo in the room games. Dante's redesign did offset me at first, but it works. It's just like how they redesign Batman/Superman for modern. Dante's just adapted.

Thanks guys! I was suspecting that nostalgia was the case, so it's great to have some confirmation. I myself don't care much about the original character or story, just the gameplay. I'll surely pick this up now and I'm more confident that I'll enjoy it. Also, I agree with Haze, being over the top is what makes games fun, at least most of them in my opinion. Thanks again!

The game was actually pretty good. I know some were kind of weary on whether the game could live up to the previous installments of the Devil May Cry franchise. I have to say while it doesn't quite match up to Devil May Cry 1 and 3, it definitely was an improvement on 2 and 4. The only thing that kind of let me down was the story aspect of the game. The combat was great, however the story had some major issues which I won't spoil for those who haven't played the game yet.

Average game at best and the worst thing related to Devil may Cry. They managed to strip everything it was good in the series and create a game where 40% of the dialog is swearing and the weapons are the most unoriginal i ever seen.

I'm pretty sure there is a demo out for this game also. Have you tried it out?

Unfortunately, I haven't because I've been a bit busy. I did find a friend with a copy though and I plan on borrowing his copy soon. If it's any good, I'll buy one for my own collection. I'll try to come back here with my own review when I get to play it personally. :D
