Extended warranty for PS4?

Will there be any sort of extended warranty option available for PS4 consoles? I ask because I've had bad luck with Sony consoles in the past. I'm on my second PS3 and it is just about dead. I would like the option to purchase a 10 year warranty or something of that sort on the PS4. I swear, they build these consoles to break. I won't go to the dark side (x box) because I hate the x box controller.

Many retailers also offer their own extended warranty, and depending on where you live in the world you may also have a right to 'Statutory warranty' which applies even if the warranty only says 1 year,on any product depending on the retail price of it in the first place though.

I guess it is going to have the usual warranty options that retailers usually put out for this kind of new devices, plus the usual company's warranty of 2 or 3 years.

This makes me want to flip my PS4 right before the warranty expires. I've been through a couple PS3's (I'm actually about to purchase my third one) due to the hardware breaking. I have no faith in Sony to produce hardware that lasts more than a couple years. I've never owned an Xbox so I can't speak on the quality of Microsoft's hardware but I've had fantastic luck with Nintendo hardware.

These always seem rather shystery to me and I've never actually bought one. There's just something wrong with retailers who constantly push their employees to sell them.

Depends on the retailer I guess.
But quite a few years back I bought an extended warranty for an LG rear projection TV,(the days when plasma's were real expensive and LCD TV's were only small size and on the way up).
And yep,a few months before it ran out the starter thingy failed..All was replaced though.
So well yeah.Up to the buyer and where he/she buys their PS4 I guess.

So what retailer offers the best extended warranties on video game consoles? Best Buy? Gametop? Walmart? I really do not have any idea because I've never bought an extended warranty on any electronics purchase. Or any purchase for that matter. I would like a 4-6 year warranty because of my poor experiences with Playstation 3s. I'd appreciate any advice that the forum can provide.

There will be warranties that you can buy through the company that you go to get the PS 4 and that's pretty usual. I would suggest not getting it though. I have never used a warranty on the consoles that I have bought. This is primarily because I treat them as well as I can. I clean them, I spray them, I look up how to clean out the insides and I think that the majority of people who do the same have a good track record with the life of a console. I finally had a problem with a 360 only it was 6 years after I bought it. That's a good life span on a console that I used almost everyday and then retired to the downstairs when my Roku came in.

So, Warranties only if you plan on ripping your PS 4 to shreds, if you don't then you'll be okay without one.

I hope it has an extended warranty. I make sure all the major electronics i have have some type of warranty on it. I need that insurance on it!

I've never had a problem with a playstation, though I suppose this one will be brand new and could possibly have some unexpected issues. I'm hoping we wont need an extended warranty. However I'm sure there will be since a lot of new, big purchase electronics have them.

They're coming with 2yr default warranty right? I think two years is more than enough for you to be able to send it back if it needs something fixed up, I bought my ps3 6months after the initial launch and it lasted until today no problem, now if they're only offering 1yr as default warranty, that worries me to be honest.

I am worried that it will only be one year. I'm sorry but even 2 years isn't much in my opinion. I'd prefer a much longer warranty that is available for a consumer who will pony up an extra 50 to 100 dollars. My prediction is that the warranty is for 12 to 18 months, maximum. I think they build these systems to break after extensive use and travel (I take mine to friends' places one per weekend or so).

Uh, well, when you end up buying it, there'll probably be an option for an extended warranty. Expensive electronics usually have that option.

Seeing how the last generation had build quality problems and the amount of bad press both companies got, I would say this time they would be building more stable systems.

Extended warranties are great but here in my place, they just give a maximum of 1 year warranty only. Hmm, I don't know if I would be able to use that warranty anyway because if possible, I would let an expert jailbreak my PS4. I think that the warranty becomes void when you jailbreak the PS4.

You must have some really bad luck when picking out a console. If they do have a warranty it's most likely going to be only for a year. You usually see symptoms of the problems before then. There are stores that offer a warranty on the item rather than the company. You can always check for that.

But I've only had hardware troubles with Sony Playstation 3's. No other systems. I do travel once per week with the console. Maybe that contributed to the problem? It's not like I dropped it on the ground though. If the warranty is only a year then I'm going to be pissed.

Honestly, I love the PS3, but I'm on my third one because of the yellow light of death. The second one I got with warranty, the third one I had to buy... Thing is, I don't use it much, and I felt cheated.
