This really shows that advances in graphics suffer from diminishing returns. PS1to PS2 was huge, PS2 to PS3 was big but not as huge and 3 to 4 doesn't look as big as any previous generation so far.

It certainly does. I was a kid back then when my dad bought me a PS1. What amazing days they were. It was my first experience with a console.

I think the same thing when i was playing call of duty 2 i was like noo they won't be able to beat these graphics and look at battlefield ! feels like your in the game with the graphics.

Wow, they've definitely come a long way in graphics! I'm looking forward to see the future PS4 games when the graphics go even further.
It won't go any further for the next 2-3 years as they will keep releasing thew same game for the current gen counterparts as well.

Cool video. Hell I had an Atari 2600 as a kid (I'm old I guess).
Pretty cool to consider the advances in close to 30 years. Hell just playing a game on TV was awesome I thought when I was young.

I still can't believe how far graphics have come. I remember when I thought CoD4 had the most realistic graphics I have ever seen.

Eh, it only really seems that well because we're just getting started. The exchange from one console to another doesn't initially present anything huge. I mean the jump from PS2's last couple of spurts to PS3's first hits isn't great, but as time progresses the gap between the two widens. It's the same here and later in the PS4's cycle we'll see some major differences... if the computers haven't taken over by then.

Meh. I'm not really that into graphics. For me it is more about the gameplay and fun factor. Remember the fun you had when NES first hit the scene? Even SNES and Sega. Those graphics are so bare bones but the games were so much fun! Hell, I still play Lemmings, Mario Kart, Mario Brothers 2 & 3 and Excite Bike today because they are so much fun. Sometimes I even prefer Baseball Simulator 1000 to MLB The Show just because of the fun factor in Simulator.

I quite like the PS2 graphics. They are still quite good. It's weird to think how much technology has changed in such a short period of time.

Considering that my first console was a video Pong machine, and that my second was a knock-off Intellivision, I'd say that graphics have come VERY far over the years. If 10-year-old me could see what the PS4 offers, he'd hardly believe it.

Wow, that video is really amazing. I started out as a little kid on a uh, Sega Genesis, and I think after that I hopped onto Playstation, and then with the Xbox 360 and PS3 I started doing both. A lot of people say I missed out on never owning a Nintendo console, heh. But yeah, how far we've come in such a short time is absolutely nuts.

You know, I can actually sit and enjoy a PS1 game without any complaints. I think I'm just far too old to care about graphics like I did when I was a teenager.

It's things like this that make you realise how revolutionary each console has been. Wipeout was especially interesting, it still looks fairly good by today's standards. And the cut from one of the PS1 Crash Bandicoot games to a PS2 one was incredibly, I didn't realise there was that big a difference until I saw this! I can't wait for a few years time, to look back and compare GTA V now to GTA VI then, and see how far we've come once again.

Yeah? And how far has PC been making it with cross-platform releases? Are things going as fast as you think they could be?
A big leap forward with consoles is a big deal for everybody because it means developers will be developing at a higher end by default, which means PC can make it even farther before the next generation.
Big leaps and bounds on console is good news for everybody, friend.

We really are in a golden age of video games. Too many high quality games to play and not enough time to play them all. I honestly believe that we're spoiled on one hand. I still have a launch edition PS3 and put in Final Fantasy 9 the other day because I was feeling nostalgic. I played it for about 20 minutes and stopped because the graphics were so bad. It's funny how you remember it being a lot better at the time.

On the one hand I rather doubt that, but on the other hand what exactly does this statement add to the conversation. You have a nice PC, so what? The point is that there has been an evolution of the hardware/software of the Sony PlayStation and that's wonderful especially considering the amount of time it's occurred in. This kind of nonsense is why people get so irritated with PC players.
I feel exactly the same way. I always reminisce about my childhood games, and when I try playing them again I can't bear the graphics. I guess we're better off just playing games that come out in now than rather than the past.
