As technology progresses, naturally, gaming companies would prefer to showcase and maximize the power of the consoles. And this probably means a lot more focus on games that allow for more flexibility in game play and visually rich cut scenes, such as sandbox games, FPS, etc. and possibly a little less of the older types of games that are more linear and therefore simpler in nature such as hack 'n' slash, fighting games, etc.
I personally am not that fond of sandbox or FPS games and still prefer just having a linear story to follow, something I can pick up and just run forward and do combos on, so I really hope that the hack 'n' slash genre (or other similar game types) doesn't die out. Of course, fighting games will live on, even with higher technology, but I would like to see more new titles for it or at least see some older and lesser known titles brought back to life.
What are your thoughts on this? Am I just paranoid that some of these genres might die out? Do you want to see more games from a certain genre, or are you pretty much satisfied with the current state of game titles and genres, and particularly where it seems to be heading?
