Ps4 trouble with home theater.

I have my PS4 hooked up via hdmi to my pioneer receiver. The ps4 is set to PCM but the audio doesn't sound good. Also not much sound from the subwoofer either. I tried the bitstream Dolby and dts but no difference. The sad part is I have my xbox one hooked up to the same receiver thru hdmi as well and that thing pounds with any game. But I want my ps4 to do the same. Is there some setting on the ps4 I've missed? Also the receiver is 5.1 do I need that box checked on the ps4? Any help will be great.

Why not test that?

Without booting my PS4 to check ... Im just throwing a few things out there.
Have you got hdmi out as priority audio?
I use a surround gaming headset with the optical connection and it works good once set up so does your receiver support optical in? Try that then.
I know you should be able to use hdmi for surround but still, worth a shot.

So what Im saying is I am getting surround sound,at least on my headset,so it must just be a matter of getting the PS4 audio settings correct for your speaker set up.

edit: My PS4 audio settings are Digital Out Optical (only cause thats what Im using, since you are using hdmi select hdmi as primary)
And in format Im using Bitstream (Dolby)

Ok so I have hdmi setup as primary. Tried all three settings again still nothing. I also checked the 5.1 box and nothing. So I took the ps4 straight to the tv via hdmi and used a optical cable to the receiver and bam it puts out surround threw bitstream Dolby. I also tried the tv in the other room with a sound bar and rear surround speakers and subwoofer and that worked also. I wonder if sony will fix this issue with no surround via hdmi? Thanks Oberon for the help!!

Oh nice, glad I helped, wasnt sure it would of been of any real help..lol

So you are staying with Optical then? I do you need to use hdmi for the sound?
btw: Are you using PS4 for just games or was your question really about playing DVD and blu ray movies in surround?

I use my ps4 just for games. But today the ps4 is back to sounding like crap. I've tried everything to get it back sounding like it did for a few hrs playing second son. I've also tried playing spider man and assassins black flag and cod ghost. but they all sound like crap. None of the games make the subwoofer thump at all. The x one on the other hand sounds amazing thru the receiver with any game. I just don't get it

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you never did mention what receiver you have. If we had that I'm sure I'd be able to help you diagnose it over a video call.

So I bought another ps4 and it solved my problem. I put the other ps4 in the other room and use a headset to get surround sound. Know my son and I can both game together. Not sure why the first one had a problem when hooked up to the receiver. But it's all good know. 2 ps4's FTW!!!

Pioneer vsx-522

kinda off topic, but I'm plannig to build an audio system, may I know what speakers and woofers and how many are you using?
Also what player are you using for your system?

Does it support bluetooth for cell phone or tablet streaming?

I am using Polk audio bookshelf speakers. I have five and one sony powered subwoofer that I plan on upgrading ASAP. It doesn't do Bluetooth but it does have a USB input for cell phones. I never tried it with a tablet. I have a apple airport extreme. connected to it for wireless play back from my mac.
