PS4 vs. Xbox One - The Ultimate Showdown!!!

Eh surely we are all going to be a bit biased on a playstation forum? Obviously I prefer the PS4 to the Xbone but I think the Xbone is slowly creeping up on PS4's shoulders. The price reduction is really helping it and it is like the same price or even cheaper in some places to buy one over a PS4. Software developers say the PS4 is better but I think it is the case of the architecture being easier to (see: many games on this new gen have better resolution on PS4). I think the main draw of PS4 is the exclusives, at the moment there aren't a lot (annoyingly) but we all know how amazing Sony's first party studios are so in time I think PS4 will seem like the stand out choice.

More games and better performance with better 1st part exclusives on the PS4.

Take a look at the specs and the PS4 has roughly 50% more graphics capability and faster RAM. The CPU has been clocked slightly above the XBones even with MS over-clocking it and we still have the might of GPGPU.

Oh and any server based cloud processing can be done on the PS4 also.

The Xbone should be way cheaper than the PS4.

MS also reward loyalty (ditch Xbox just to get the 360 out first and rush it plagued with RROD, drop kinnect and now give £75 towards trade in for Xbone to annoy early adopters)

Sony are gods in comparison

I am not trying to defend Microsoft here as I own only a PS4 console not counting my Steam PC. The 360 was definitely rushed and their was not much QC done on the system to have that high of RROD issues which I believe the Slim version fixed later. However, Microsoft did fix the issues and had a fairl y quick turnaround time for those RROD machines. This does not excuse it but at least shows they tried to make it right with their customer base.

ONe of the issues I have with Sony is they don't seem to care what their customer base is saying. They could not have handled the PSN accounts with credits cards getting hacked much worse and then gave some free PS + membership which did nothing for people like myself who had paif the PS + membership for many years.

Sony took away the ability to run Linux on the PS3. Sony put the Cinevia DRM in the PS3 so I could not play BD's copied to my NAS on the PS3 and never supported the MKV container even though it was the one of the most requested features.

Sony has a track record of doing what they want and not giving in to protection by their client base. This can be very bad IMO. The PS4 cannot find plug and play media servers like the PS3 can. It seems that Sony wants to try and force people to buy music and movies through a service on the PS3 where they make money.

I have moved away from using the PS3 and ps4 for media center because of the fact that I have a smart TV and Roku boxes (with Plex) so I can play streaming content and watch movies off my NASes It really would be nice if I could do this from the PS4.

I know everyone says the PS4 is more of just a pure gaming machines like this is a good thing. The PS3 was a great BD player, could play movies in 3D, could read all your uPNP media servers and as a result, my PS3 was used for a lot of different things while my PS4 is for games only.

LOL that was after huge pressure from over 1m failed xbox360's after initially denying the issue. They still use machines shipped to tie with the PS3 despite many of these just replacing broken machines. What about the integral Kinnect which has now been binned after suckering early adopters to pay more for it?

That's plain BS mate they gave away 2 games as an apology

Yes they did and Linux was the reason I got a PS3 as my desktop PC had just died. I was devastated when it was removed but the homebrew hacking scene made it impossible for them to leave the system so open. It hurt me massively at the time as I had to spend on another PC

Not unlike another company that wanted BBC Iplayer behind a paywall? Sony have said these are coming but not priority and for me I have zero interest in playing my own music. I think they are concerned about piracy

The PS3 was £599 in 2007 for the Rolls Royce of gaming machines/media centres the PS4 at £350 today is probably less than half the price after inflation and definitely a different strategy offering decent bang for bucks and focus on gaming rather than all things to all men

The Xbox has tried to be the jack of all trades this gen and as a result is a bit under-powered in terms of pure gaming.

Both companies want our money but to claim MS listens and Sony doesn't is a tad unfair and do you remember the DRM policies MS wanted and the "dealwithit" response to always online?!!

To be fair at the moment there are more first party games for XBone in the imminent future but we all probably know there are more in production secretly for PS4.
PS4 definitely has the better specs but Microsoft said they are improving power output and efficiency.
I thought the cloud processing was mroe dedicated on Xbone however I am not fully aware of how good the PS4 is at that.
It should be and at the moment in some places it is considering they are stopping kinect being bundled with the console.

Like I said, I obviously prefer Sony and PS4 but I think you should look at things subjectively, remember Sony had a bad summer a few years back with the hacking. They aren't perfect but they definitely are on a better track than Microsoft at the moment.

I'm not really sure if we can say one console is better than the other, both have their advantages and downsides, but at the end of the day they are both great consoles and everyone should be free to buy the one he likes the most. Be it because of a game that's only available on one console or because their friends have the same console or because you always bought the one console and you don't want to switch after so many years. At the end of the day it doesn't matter which console you use because it is your choice and not someone elses. I personally like the PS4 more, but I'm not a xb1 hater just because I like the PS4 more. I appreciate both consoles and if I had the money I would probably own both.

Owning both would be a fantastic waste of money for me! ;)

I would say gaming PC and PS4 the ideal set up (XBone exclusives are all on PC and a gaming rig crushes PS4 and XBone).

Then again you would need a hefty bank account and plenty of room for all the kit!

Yeah it would be for me too, but I meant if I didn't have to think about money and could buy anything I wanted, then I would own both on top of a nice gaming rig. I agree though, that PC actually crushes both in terms of performance, but high-end PCs also cost a lot of money. I actually only own a laptop, so gaming is mostly on lower graphics for me, but that's why I enjoy console gaming too. It just looks a lot better than my laptop and I can't afford to buy a better PC right now.

Haha I think owning a PS4 and PC is the best outcome too. Get the best of both worlds. Better console exclusives and then you get to play the 3rd party and microsoft exclusives (bar halo) on the PC so it is basically a win-win situation.

While I'm happy with both the Xb1 and PS4 I'm amazed at how easily PSN went down yesterday. It took me 20 minutes to plug in my Destiny beta key because PSN kept crashing, and it kept going down for hours after that. If Sony would beef up PSN stability, listen to user input for future console features, and add some decent customer support I'd put the PS4 ahead of Xb1.

I am playstation fan as of now. I use to be into xbox a lot more.I probably would try to get bot consoles just to compare the both of them. I know the ps4 has certain exclusives that are not on ps4.

I'll be honest here, lately I've been more inclined towards the Xbox One. I was a big Xbox person back since whenever GTA IV was released (bought the Xbox 360 Elite and GTA IV the day it was released) but during the last couple of years Microsoft just lost it and started being ridiculous when they announced all their policies and strictness with the Xbox One. I still don't trust them as who's to say they won't implement those policies later down the track? But the one thing I give Microsoft is they for me have the better exclusives. Don't get me wrong, Sony have some great exclusives (Ratchet & Clank, MGS, Heavy Rain, etc.) but I just have more fun and prefer games like Crackdown, Gears of War and Halo. I know I'll be frowned upon by this lol. And with the new Halo game, Master Chief Collection and more importantly a new Crackdown - I'm more inclined to pick up a Xbox One.

BURN THIS HERETIC!

Exactly exclusives are the main reason I stuck with PS since PS2. The PS exclusives are more story based/single player which suits my taste better.
Xbox has good exclusives, but they are shooter/multiplayer focused, which is not for me.

Go away,go farrrrr away and then before you come back wash your mouth out with soap until you come to your senses :p

Oh...I get it? It was a joke huh? Oh,you almost had me there Hazey boy :p :o

It has been awhile since I last posted my thoughts on this continuing battle. Xbox One has been staggered pretty well and its been running some campaign geared towards teh hardcore gaming crowd. That included the removal of the Kinect in order to drop the price. I think that Xbox has potential to turn themselves around but its most likely going to be a generation like PS 2 versus Xbox.

The PS 2 was able to hold and consistently so a humungous portion of the market. Xbox was able to find footing and their launch of 360 outdid the PS 3 for a little while until Sony found its footing again as well.

If history is a repeating cycle then we're going to continue to see an amazing turn out for the PS 4 and the Xbox One will have some time and difficulty before turning itself around.

right out of the gate before playing on either the xbone had more "pro's" for me, my best friend has one, the controller felt much nicer, dead rising 3, but I knew if I got one in the back of my mind the "PS fan boy" would regret the purchase and I'd always be thinking to my PS PS2 PS3 days, I thought about the debate and discussed it with my buddies before making the choice, I went with the PS4 and feel I made the right choice, very happy. also.... uncharted4...... mirrors edge 2....... can't wait.
yeah it would be cool to play destiny with my friend, but i'll make more I'm sure.

I think the PS4 is my console this generation, it seems much more focused on gaming as opposed to a multi purpose device...however, I'm looking forward to see what the Xbox one exclusive games will be

Been an avid Xbox fan had the original then the 360 and the One..... I sold my one and bought the PS4. The whole bells and whistles put me off the xbox one. I wanted a games machine. Not a tv extender.
