A 1TB PS4 console version will be released in Europe and select PAL territories on July 15.
Apparently called 'The Ultimate Player Edition'
Its also 10% lighter and uses 8% less energy.
The hard drive cover also has a matt finish.

No pricing yet but ofcourse check your local retailers.
No word on any U.S release date as yet.

So yeah...sounds good.
I already installed a 1TB HDD on my PS4 day one but lighter and especially using less energy is always good too. :Onya

Since I dont buy digital copies, 500GB is plenty for me.
Less energy is good but lighter? No real benefit there.

Its good for new buyers, for people who already have one, no reason to upgrade.

Saw this on EB Games website yesterday. They had it priced at $549 (Australian dollars) Doesn't seem too bad at that price.

Erm...but even disc based games are installed the PS4's HDD.
Im glad I swapped mine on day one.
For PS3 500GB would be plenty, for PS4 not as much as game installs and downloads etc are larger than on PS3.

True, but I delete the games I trade, so far I havent faced shortage, but I believe once I have more collection games(MGS and Uncharted for example) I might face space problems.

I did that too on the Xbox One. When I sold a game, I deleted it from my hard drive. Got hectic lately so I eventually grabbed a 1TB Portable hard drive for it. Might have to do the same with the PS4 down the line.

Ofcourse,I would have thought deleting any game data or even save game data is common practice if you do not own the game anymore.
Always did it on PS3,and always do it on PS4.

I read this with the E3 announcement. Seems pretty cool, though 1TB can be easily updated for cheap. If I wanted higher than 500GB, I'd just replace the hard drive myself with a 1.5 or 2 TB hard drive, like I did for my PS3. But with even 1TB, you would probably never hit it unless you downloaded all your games. Even then, at 50gigs for the bigger games, it would take you quite some time to fill it.

Weren't they also saying that they made this version slimmer but not calling it the "Slim" because it's not a slim model? I didn't think it needed to be slimmer. It's a little lower than my PS3 slim as it is, lol.

Actually if this was the PS3 days I'd agree, it took me two years + to fill up my 120GB Slim PS3 hard drive and back then I kept every single game installed. However I'm constantly hitting the boundaries with my current PS4 and I only have 5 or so AAA games. I mean CoD has disc install of 57 odd GBs and that's by disc. Dying Light has 24GB Watch Dogs has 30GB Destiny has 26GB Far Cry 4 has 32GB The Last of Us has 42GB (this one is digital) Infamous First light is 10GB

Then obviously I've got system software which I think on the PS comes under 'other' and that's 30GB I've also got a bunch of indie titles. So my applications is 338GB and I only have a dozen or so games.

I've got 5 or so GB in my capture gallery and about 2GB in saved data files.

So I mean I only have around 55GB of free space left.

I have already had to delete games I do not play due to my 500GB PS4 being full. I'm going to bet I would fill a 1TB pretty quickly as well. IMO, 2TB and up should be the norm by now.

Game developers are the ones who could make it easier for us, the consumer. They could compress the file size like the used to do and still do on the PS3 and 360. Except they don't seem to want to do that.

I think skyrim uncompressed was 100GB.

I guess that depends on performance. I wouldn't want to sacrifice performance for file size.

I agree with Don. Lighter? For what use? Who carried there PlayStation 4 around constantly?
Matt finish? That's cool....
Would it be worth buying this and getting ride of my playstation 4? HELL NO! Lol

Hmm. Guess I never really noticed how much my games are actually putting on the system. Doesn't seem like 1 TB will really solve any problems. That Nyko external hard drive is looking mighty tempting down the road ;)

Low res textures, and a completely different architecture.

Well I can't honestly see them not being able to do it. I mean the graphical upgrade between most PS3 games and PS4 games aren't too huge at the moment. File Compression when done right is basically like unpacking a box and can have no graphical impact at all.

Games still are compressed but they aren't compressed to the same degree. Games are still being compressed but no where near the same degree they once were. If you can do it on the PS3 then I bet you can do on the PS4. I just think developers are perhaps seeing that because everyone now has by default a 500GB hard drive they don't feel the need to do it.

I've read elsewhere that the ultimate player 1 TB edition is the old cuh-11xx model which means that storage capacity is the only difference. The redused weight and power consumption comes with the cuh-12xx model which i'm not sure if is released in Europe yet.

Anyone have some info on this issue? When will it (cuh-12xx) be released in Europe? Or is it already here?
