Do You Play Sports Video Games?

I never got the appeal of sports games, and I was always jealous whenever my friends would derive so much joy from playing Fifa or NBA. It's kind of enjoyable to watch though, but I'd rather watch or play a game that either shoots guns or throws punches and fireballs. The only sports games I ever remotely liked were UFC, WWE (technically still sports?), and NBA Jam way back from the Sega days. I never even got the hype towards Fight Night, because like I said, no fireballs.

What about you? Which Playstation sports games did you most enjoy?

I don't really play any sports games aside from wrestling ones. I've never really been into football or basketball or anything like that (although those games can be quite fun I must admit). I love WWE games though, and the fact that you can make your own character is cool too, because this is a great addition to the game in my opinion.

Yep, I play sports games as long as I am a fan of that sport. Since I love basketball, NBA 2k13 tops my list. It's the best NBA game that I have ever played. I also like Virtua Tennis. I find the sport very tactical and exciting. It's also quite addicting. Lastly, I thoroughly enjoyed playing Fight Night Champion. I would play as Manny Pacquiao and lay a pounding on all of his opponents.

The only ones I have played are a few basketball titles and a couple of Madden games. But I absolutely loved NBA Live 10. Can't wait for NBA Live to return!

I played NBA Showdown and Live 95 for SNES, Live 96 for PC, and Live 97, 98, 99, and 2000 for PS1. I would always have a team comprised of legends and current players in the custom teams for Live 2000. I also had this NBA game for the PSP, but I never had the time to play that game anyway.

I think sport games are really designed for console use. It's just natural to be playing with a controller.

As for the games I play, I picked up 2k13 a while ago. Been playing it every now and then, and it's a pretty fun game. Sometimes, I forget the basic controls like passing the ball or shooting.

I guess its a preference kind of thing. I like basketball, so when I play NBA 2K13 I feel like I'm watching a real game, only I have tons more control of the outcome. I also like Fight Night as well because its more "down to earth" so its based on physics rather than which character has the best combos or special moves. Every fighter has the same punches as the other 30+ fighters but its how you use your punches and dodge techniques to insure a win. Once again, its a preference thing.

I bought FIFA 13 yesterday on my PC just for the online play and damn, it's freaking fun and frustrating! I love owning people with my mad football/soccer skills and I love to see them rage over the wide margin of the score. In addition to that, I love being able to use my favorite athletes in the game. It's also nice to transfer your favorite players to your favorite club and to sell those you don't like to weak clubs.

Here is a screenshot showing my mad winning streak in the FIFA 13 Online seasons. Challenge me!

It's never appelead to me, i've always been all about exploring new worlds and experiencing amazing stories and gameplay. You don't really get that from sports games. I suppose if someone is a huge sports fan it really makes sense, to me games are really a lot about the fantasy, if you enjoy sports i guess managing your own team and controlling your players would be pretty surreal.

I remembered when I was younger, I would play this soccer game called Winning Eleven 20XX.

It was a game much better than FIFA soccer at that time. You were able to use many soccer tactics and also control your shooting a little.

The graphics weren't that awesome, but the game play was really good. I was hooked on that game for a while back in high school.

I would just like to add that I could never ever like playing Madden NFL or Golf or NHL or Cricket. I just don't enjoy watching these types of sports. And since I don't enjoy watching them, I also don't enjoy playing them, most especially golf. I find the sport to be very boring. That also goes for chess. I don't like playing chess in video games. I like playing actual chess though.

Actually, I used to play Madden games before I was really into football. They're the main reason why I'm a football fan now because they helped me learn a great deal about how the game is played. If you count skating as a sport, I used to play all the Tony Hawk games religiously, but I haven't played any of them since "Proving Grounds" or whatever it was called, which was one of the biggest disappointments ever. I know Nascar isn't really a sport, but I really liked those games too; my friend and I used to drive backwards and plow into other cars and try to cause huge wrecks. Yep, good clean fun.

I've dabbled in the Madden and 2k Sports games, as well as The Show. But the only games that have ever really held my attention that were sport games, were the Tiger Woods games, and Skate 3. Madden just pisses me off most of the time, because my receivers will be wide open and still not be able to cut across field and catch a throw. So my QB stats get terrible.

Yes, I play sport games because I am a sports maniac. I love sports and I enjoy competing against other people because I am a sports competitor. Sports games is what a play most of the time. I play sports games such as Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legend, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, Madden NFL 13, Lords of Football, FIFA Soccer 13, NBA Live 10, 2k13, and Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14. Awesome games to play! :)

Sports games have always been my favorite kind of video games. I used to play Madden often, but I haven't in the past few years (although I am still the best player I know, if I do say so myself). Recently, I've been playing the NBA 2K games. I haven't bought one since the release of 2K12, though, due to the lack of a lot of features they used to have, like crew games.

Only NBA, the old NFL 2K games, and wrestling games (since they now run on a sports title schedule and are usually listed as sports/fighting and in the sports section).

Sports games are one niche that just doesn't really appeal to me at all. I'm not hugely into sport so just about all the large sport's titles simply go over my head.

The only 'sports' games I've had across all three PlayStations I've owned have either been the odd Snooker game such as World Snooker Championship or in terms of football (or Soccer if you’re in the USA!) – the LMA Manager series, which is a decent console alternative to Championship/Football Manager on the PC. The FIFA games, where you actually 'play' as a player, don't personally appeal to me…

The FIFA series is probably the biggest titled series of games that I don't recall having ever played. I've certainly never owned any.
