DS4 Controller battery life

I realize most people prefer the new controllers but at this point, I prfer the old controllers as nothing has done a good job of implementing the touch pad at the top and the battery life is not even close to the same ballpark. I don't really need a blue light on a controller to tell me I am player 1. I really wish they had some type of battery life saver other than turning the DS4 off after xx minutes. I don't have the PS4 eye so I don't need a big blue light. The effect of changing colors on the remote during situations in the game gets old in a real hurry. I do know that the DS3 would easily allow me to play a game for 12 hours before losing one of three battery life indicators.

Do the rest of you like the DS4 better than the DS3 and is the difference worth the battery sacrifice?

DS4 and DS3? I think you mean PS4 and PS3. But I on the other hand find it convenient that there is a player light and the touchpad. I also haven't noticed any battery issues with the "DS4" aka PS4 controllers.

From what I've seen, the DS4 has many features, but not too many games right now to make use of them. That's why I feel like the change wasn't worth it. The touchpad is a fancy feature, but it only drains your battery faster and it doesn't help much for the gameplay.

I would have figured the PS4 controllers would use up more batter due to the extra features and that awesome blue light thingy. Am I wrong?

I'm with you Dean about the light bar. It's annoying and distracting, especially when the screen goes to black between scenes. I usually wait to play games at night so that my attention is completely focused on the screen, the light bar destroys that experience. Does anyone know how to turn it off or are we not capable of making that decision ourselves? I ended up taping it up with black electrical tape.

The first few games wont implement the touchpad, and most might not except console exclusives, because im sure they wont program it in for games that are for both consoles, and i like the controller but yeah battery life sucks haha.

Just for the record DS4 = DualShock 4 for PS4 and DS3 is Dualshock 3 for PS3.

I don't know if Sony increased the battery life of the DS3 but I bought a blue DS3 around a year ago and it literally would make it through 12 hours of gaming with 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 3 battery bars left. The DS4 is down to 66%battery in under 2 hours. I am hoping for a firmware upgrade that will allow you to disable the light, the sound out of the DS4 and have it play through my surround sound system. I don't see any advantage to having sound come out of the controller.

I'm getting confused myself between all these numbers - DS3, DS4, PS3, PS4. I'll just refer to them as the appropriate console's controller. Anyway, it's too bad to hear that the battery is not on par with the older ones. I had a feeling that the LED lights on top were going to prove to be problematic in some way. I hope they address the issue.

I haven't noticed issues with power since I keep mine connected, but I would think that blue light in the back would be a bit of a power hog...nom-ing on battery life.

It's definitely the light leeching power. When it's quiet when you're playing and you hear a crunching sound followed by heavy breathing and a "Mmmh" that's the blue light eating battery power.

I would keep mine connected to the PS4, but I have some distance from where I set/lay and the console.

Having just swapped from Xbox 360 to PS4, I have to say I love the DS4. One of the reasons why I swapped to PS4 was because of this controller and I haven't been disappointed. The light doesn't bother me atall and if my controller is running low on battery life then I would simply just plug it in and continue playing, don't see what the fuss is about.

DS4 is way better than the DS3 imo.

No issues here. Just plug and play however, I will say, I hope they come out with a longer cable so I don't have to sit on the tv while it's charging while I'm playing.

It is just a USB Micro Cable. You can buy longer cables on Amazon, Ebay, or most any online site for cheap. 16 feet was the limit for USB 2.0 but I think the PS4 has USB 3.0 but am not positive to be honest. The 16 foot cables should be sufficient for most people.

The battery life is good. XBOX One takes batteries i think, so i guess it might be longer lasting for XBOX One, but you'll be going through so many batteries!

Hey guys, new update for the battery life/LED bar on the controller. On Breathecast it was confirmed yesterday that there will be no patch or anything of the sort coming up for the annoying LED light bars on the controller. ::sigh::

Sony's Shuhei Yoshida replied to a fan's Tweet with a very simple, "No" when asked if an option to disable the PS4's light bar on the DualShock 4 would be available.

EGM reported that PS4 owners were complaining about the short battery life of the controller compared to the PS3. Many believe it is due to the LED light on the top of the remote. Yoshida however has previously said, "the LEDs do not use much battery."

The Xbox One controller uses AA batteries but also has the option for rechargeable battery packs, same as with the 360. Also, invest in some Enloops. They sell them on Amazon and they are SO worth it and really are the best rechargeable batteries around. I use them to shoot weddings and other events. Super dependable. Once they start to lose power (takes a few seasons of super heavy use) then they become batteries for my controllers and laptop mice
