Going back to my PS3 from PS4 for now

I only hope that they are done when they are released. I would hate to have to wait for another broken game. That being said I am also ready to wait, If not I would have cancelled my pre orders.

My problem is that Sony had to know those games were not going to make the launch window but they kept it quiet until right before release. I didn't want to give up my pre-order so I would have it on Day 1. However, it is more than the games. It is the fact that they are trying to sell Angry Birds for $40 bucks, don't have any good PSN games, and their exclusive release game Kilzone 4 is a step back from Killzone 3. The fonts are so small it is unreadable with its translucent backgrounds.

The EA Games are quick and cheap ports designed for a quick cash grab. NBA 2K14 is very good but I get bored with sports games in a hurry as they are too repetitive and essentially have not changed much in 25 years except for better graphics.

The big disappointment is the lack of DNLA, IR port, no support for Samsung devices, cant play music, MP3s, lack of BD 3D, etc. The system seems like a step backwards in every way except that they made it where you can charge the controllers with the system on standby but when the controllers only get 1/8th to 1/10th of the life of the PS3 controllers then even that is a step back.

The PS3 is basically as the same amount of power as a mid ranger PC . Don't get me wrong, I prefer consoles because everyone is using the same hardware unlike PC gaming where games have to be written for different video cards and some only work on Radeon and while others only work on Nvidia. The console is superior for gaming as it is designed specially for that.

I still say that any computer entertainment device released in 2004 that cannot add a Sony Bluetooth headset is not ready for primetime.

And Yes, I went back to the PS3 until Infamous Second Son is released. I am thinking about moving the PS4 to a different TV. I am currently playing a second playthrough of the Last of US and Infamous 2 to prepare for Infamous 3 not to mention the 100 or or so PSN games I have on the hard drive that were worth keeping. Some are PS+ games while others are purchased games.

The Last of us looks better than anything on the PS4 to do this point IMO.

When I per-ordered my PS4's Drive Club, Second Son, Watch Dogs and War Thunder were supposed to be launch titles. Then one by one they got set back. I finally started a UK account to get War Thunder 2 days ago but haven't played it yet. I want to but I know I will get slaughtered with such a high ping.

I do agree on this part but my problem is Sony advertised a bunch of games to be shipped at the same date as the system or within 2 months and none of them panned out. Sony knew they weren't going to be released and sat ont he information as they were afraid they would lose sales.

I may be in the minority but I would respect Sony more if they came out and said "The big flagship games just are not ready and will be released when we get the bugs worked out." it is hard for most gamers to argue with that logic. What Sony did borders on false advertising. They advertised the games that would be available during the release Window and then pulled them. Things didn't just blow up overnight and I am sure the developers knew long before there would be delays.

I hoe Infamous Second Son is not rushed with it's scheduled release later this month. Infamous 1 & 2 are both in my top 10 of PS3 games so I want this game to be at least as god as the other two with much better graphics and hopefully a city that remembers the damage you have caused to it.

I don't think the PS4 was rushed as such. The technology is in place, but it really should have had a better selection of games from day one. However I must admit that as someone who still hasn't upgraded to one, the fact that there's already been system updates so early on in it's life is mildly concerning.

Like Dean, I don't physically have space for both a PS3 and a PS4 consoles to run side by side. I don't have enough plug sockets either as I'm already on two plug socket extensions as it is. When I do finally make the plunge, it'll be a case of disconnecting the PS3 and using the same socket for the PS4.

The only other feature I have used on my PS3 other than slotting in a game is the ability to play DVD's. Whilst it plays them well enough, I find the volume is very low compared with sticking it into my DVD player itself. I find myself two thirds of the way up the television’s volume, whereas I'm rarely any more than just under half way with the proper DVD player. I've never figured out why. As a result, I probably use it for DVD's only a handful of times in any given year. With regards to Blu-ray, I can only recall using one sole disc! As a result 95% of it’s life it's simply been used as a 'plug in and play' console – which is what I feel all consoles should be first and foremost. I'm not really interested in the needlessly over complicated garnish of the 'next gen'. Just what new games, single players, I can get for it.

Personally, I'm in no rush to upgrade to the PS4 as of yet. I've already stated most of the reasons for doing so. To me, it's not worth it's £350-odd price tag and certainly not for what I want it for. Heck, I'll still be grimacing if end up paying over the £250 mark (I will have at least two substantial Amazon vouchers in my possession when the time comes). It's going to be at least another month before I start considering and even then, I really can still see me holding back a while longer… Make no mistake my PS3 is in it's 'Twilight days' now, but I'm just not quite ready to make the upgrade yet. I want to see how things pan out with the new console over the next few months once the UK finally gets a decent shipment of them. Until then, I'm happy just ticking over tying up the few loose ends that are left on my PS3 gaming career - and watching YouTube videos of early PS4/XBox One games (more money saved...!).

The time to strike is when there's plenty on the market, teething troubles have been ironed out and there's a better selection of games. I doubt there's going to be any sort of price cut any time soon but I do expect some attractive and better value bundles to start appearing later on this year. I made a mistake in getting a PS3 very early on and it's a mistake I'm determined not to be make again. My patience and market research skills have developed leaps and bounds since the PS3 was launched!

Speaking of pre-ordering things, I don't recall doing anything like this since High School – and I left there coming up for 13 years ago this summer. Nine times out of ten if I'd pre-ordered a game I went into the relevant shop and there were numerous copies on general sale anyway… Obviously, the market has changed a lot since then and now the common marketing practice is to only import/produce very limited numbers so they can milk the most out of the customers for as long as they dare before having to supply a reasonable amount. Something they could have done (and used to) from day one… If I've got to wait a few weeks or a few months for something then, quite frankly, so be it. It's not the end of the world! The contents of my wallet mean a heck of a lot more to me now than they did when I was a school leaver. Let the market flood and get what you want for a more acceptable price.

Also when it comes to games, take all the release dates with a pinch of salt. As someone who's been gaming since the very late eighties (about as far back as I can recall), just about everything that I've wanted has been pushed back. There's almost always some sort of delay due to a technical problem or similar. Especially those with November and December release dates. You can almost guarantee it'll be into the New Year before it's actually launched…

I went into a couple of retail stores over the weekend and they have a whole bunch of Xbone stuff but just a tiny little section for the PS4.

A very good point, there. Infact I can go a stage further than that. I've yet to actually see any PS4 game for sale in the shops anywhere around these parts. All that I can see are narrow displays for discounted PS3's and PS3 games. There does appear to be a heck of a delayed reaction/response in this respect. Even I'm surprised at how slow retailers have been in this respect.

I can't even play the FF XIV online beta because of the extremely small text and my set up is basically exactly as you described(and I have 20/20), it's really too bad and makes it completely unplayable.

The developers are working 6 inches away from a 32 inch monitor but this is due to a lack of beta testing. The first time they have someone 6-8 feet away from your average 60 some inch HDTV, the text becomes unreadable. The games playing in 1080p makes the text smaller than the 720p of the past. I do think Sony have a problem with their text interface. Killzone is nearly unplayable to me because the mission text is translucent and small and depending on the background you are looking at can be barely readable to completely unreadable.

I expect bugs and growing pains on a new system but this is Sony's 4th generation of consoles and they seem to be going backwards in several areas.
