Guess I'm getting to old to game.

hehe i'm 30 and from the NES days :)

i think if it's something you enjoy doing age shouldn't matter, unless of course you physically can't do it anymore. i'm pretty hopeless, but still managed to get through killzone, so if i can then anyone should be able to :) if FPS games aren't what you like there's no point in keeping on buying them tho, play genres you enjoy, personally i love to try and kill anything and everything in games (of course i chose evil karma in infamous) :) just be persistent and you will get better!

I miss the good old days lol Used to import PC-Engine games and my wife, who was my friend at the time, would translate then as I play. Some of my best memories growing up was of gaming. heck for graduation I got a SNES and my sister got a car.

I so wanted a PC engine!

I had an imported Jap Megadrive prior to UK release and it cost me £250 but thankfully the games were Afterburner, Ghouls N Ghosts, Golden Axe etc so no real need for instructions LOL.

You used to game with a girl back then and she became your wife? Kudos mate sounds like the perfect set up as my girlfriend hates all games except Final Fantasy VII & IX due to the cartoony graphics, storyline and playability.

When I stopped gaming for a while when I came back all of my skills had went down the drain. The thing is you can regain your skill and I believe that there is no one ever to old to play video games. The other day I was watching a video where I saw a granny playing a video game and she seems to have been enjoying it. Sometimes when I am playing a game and I just can't seem to pass a level something that I like to do is turn off the video game and just take a break from it. Sometimes all that you need is a moment to clear you mind and get your thoughts together, but always remember that no one is ever to old to game unless you are old and your finger hurts you are you can't see too well.

If you're having trouble, you could always turn the difficulty down a notch and turn it up later when you feel more confident. As long as you're having fun and enjoying your time, that's all that matters.

Maybe you need to lower the difficulty level.

I am sure it has nothing to do with your age. There are plenty of old gamer's That are doing just fine. I would recommend you decrease the difficulty setting. That will make it much easier for you have success.

I seems like you do not like a challenge. Those games st the difficulty level to the highest setting in order to challenge the users. Changing that should solve your problem. I do not think it has anything to do with your age.

Good luck.

I started playing call of duty last year, after not playing any console games since the ps2 around a decade ago. I was awful, at the game for a long time. It honestly took about 6 months of playing to get to a point where i could see improvement, especially since I only had a few hours a week to play. Now I finally have respectable games.

This is a situation I run into a good amount as well, but I attribute it to my casual nature rather than age. I never was really all that good with games anyway, and I even almost never finished any of them and instead just played them progressively well each time I was bored until I someday reached the later levels and if I still wasn't tired of the game at that point then maybe I'd see it to completion but otherwise I never had the problem of just quitting it then moving on to some other game. Personally, I think games you can obsessively love are the easiest to finish because you don't even notice the time, effort and concentration you're putting into it.

Do you know what you need to be waiting for? The Virtual Reality to arrive on PS4. Believe me, it's going to be a REVOLUTION.

I can't wait for VR ! I always think about when I will be retired. I will be able to play every day without worrying about anything else. So I hope I will never be too old to play ! As long as you enjoy gaming I think there's no age limit. Even if you can't perform you just play the game to have fun. If fun is here everything is allright !

I stopped regular gaming around three, maybe three and a half years ago. Why? Simply because I felt people like me, who like single player games, were simply being forgotten about and just about everything new or coming onto the market was just yet another generic FPS of some sort… A genre I think has been unbelievably over saturated over the last four, maybe even five years now. I lost a heck of a lot of interest in gaming as a result and to be fair, it's never really recovered from that. Gaming seems to have taken a huge step forward with just about everything being online or multiplayer (again, with a heavy FPS dominance) and quite frankly, I've been left more or less entirely in the dark as a result.

I don't think I'm too old for gaming. I've not long turned 29. There should be some years left in me but I do feel technology has moved on so quickly that it really has left me well and truly behind. This is the biggest problem I have. I've gone from a regular gamer, to a casual and then quickly to an 'occasional' gamer within four years. Looking at next-gen consoles frightens me because all I want to do is to plug the thing in, slot in a disc and play. It's clear this is now becoming too much to ask as we move more and more over to the point where consoles are becoming very complex entertainment systems with internet connections e.t.c… How it all works and how to make it work does genuinely scare me. It’s the way that things have gone forward and unfortunately, my understanding of it all is limited to the point you’d actually think I was joking. I have no idea how to set up a Playstation online account thingy. Actually, I have no idea how to actually hook the console up to the internet. I have no idea how to download anything from a console (how it 'saves' or stores this data either) and nor do I know how to 'hook up' to multiplayer games or how you talk to anyone whilst online…

Up to my late teens I used to spend most weekends on whatever console I had at the time (Sega Megadrive, PS1, early to mid days of the PS2). I’d regularly have four to six hour gaming sessions and not think twice about it. I’d be on it most weekday evenings too. Heck, I can go back further than that to my early childhood in the very late eighties when I used to borrow my older brother’s Atari STE (remember those?). There were some major leaps in technology in gaming over the course of the 90's and I happily adapted to them all. The contrast between what you could buy in 1990 and 1999 was truly vast. Much larger than it is now, actually. I think I'm quite privileged to come from this era of gaming. However this latest change to 'next-gen' just seems to be a gap too far for me. Not in terms of the games, but the actual technology and loopholes you have to jump through in order to get them just to work.

Over these last three years or so my PS3 has sat gathering dust for weeks, if not more than a month at a time before it’s used – and even then there's only about five games that I've had in that time to actually play on it. The fact that I’m considering an upgrade to the PS4 this year means that I've not actually used it now for around six weeks. Probably longer. I have absolutely no doubt my skills have become rusty and I'm ashamed to say it. I hate to 'beat my own drum' as such but until this point where my love for gaming was lost, I'd consider myself to be a competent gamer with reasonable skill on most genre that I played.

I accept that since I effectively hung up my gaming controller that I've become embarrassingly lazy. About 70% of my gaming over this period has come via watching others on YouTube. They have the skill to go about all this online business of hooking up to servers whereas I don't. I don't know where to even start. There are various games I'd love to join in to play but that part of my brain which has 'clicked' with everyone else's to do whatever it is they do with ease, just hasn’t with me…

Believe me, when the time comes for me to get a PS4 (and I am determined to get back onto the gaming saddle before my love completely dies altogether), I'm going to need help, if not divine intervention, to get me set up. If I can't, then I think I'm just about finished, folks… :(

Haymansafc good post mate but I'm not requoting all of that.

Do you have an internet connection at home (Wi-Fi or wired)? If you do you simply plug a cable in from your modem to your PS4, HDMI from PS4 to TV and power cable into the wall and PS4, slip in a bluray and you are good to go - it really is very simple indeed.

The great thing about a forum like this is there are guys and girls that can help you get started and most people are quite friendly to fellow gamers.

The PSN account is really just an email address and a few personal details so not really that much more difficult than joining a forum.

Downloading is very easy as you just visit the "store" click on a game you like and it starts downloading - you can even play other games whilst you wait.

You save games on the machines hard drive like the PS3 but if you have a PS+ membership your machine automatically uploads your saves to Sony's servers so if your saves get corrupted you can download them and carry on.

I had my PS3 since launch and after finishing Grand Theft Auto 5 and Gran Turismo 6 felt that there wasn't much I wanted to play so bit the bullet this year and traded the old girl in for a PS4.

I would have to say it's the best thing I have ever done - absolutely love the machine and there are plenty of decent games you can play single player (Assassins Creed, Tomb Raider, Outlast, Resogun, Infamous SS and loads more).

The one thing I have enjoyed is the indie games which are free with a PS+ membership (£40 a year and its a good deal as you get discounts on games as well) and Resogun and Outlast are easily worth £20 each in my view.

Talking to other people is again easy and to begin with use the free earpiece Sony supply it's naff and cheap but at least you can chat to see if you want to or not before investing in a headset (again done over the internet so it's free).

I'm guessing you don't have your PS3 online at present?

First step get online. (Virgin, Sky, BT etc)

Second step get a PSN account for your PS3 - you will be missing out massively if you don't

Third step if you can afford it splash £40 out for PS+ and you can download free a bucket load of PS3 games and demo's etc

Fourth step buy a PS4, sign in with you PS account and you are ready to go.

I've recaptured my youth with the PS4 (I'm 38!!) and would be more than happy to talk you through getting things set up if needed.

You're never too old to game, so long as you can manage to wrap your head around the set-up and get a grip on the way the games are played, then you are all good to go, and it is easy.

If you genuinely feel you are too old to enjoy videogames, just leave them behind and focus on life.

I do hope you get your mojo back for gaming though.

I don't get you, man. If you're able to connect your computer/ tablet/smartfone or whatever you use to write on this board, you will easily connect the console. Besides it's always good to develop a habit of reading a manual.
As it comes to games, there are a few not FPS with nice single player campaign on PS4. They are discussed on this forum. Perhaps you are more into strategy games? If so, perhaps you should consider some PC games ...

Don't think Pc gaming is the way as he wants an easy gaming experience not messing around with drivers, software and compatibility.

"I dont think too old to game" is possible.
Even my mom plays crappy facebook games, so yeah old people play games, I dont know who brought up this concept that video games is for kids, video games IMO is a medium just like movies and TV series.

However I game much much less these days, back in my teenage years, I used to game 6-12 hours a day, I had more than 40 games on PS2.
with PS3 it became much much less, i think I played 15-20 games on PS3 total.

Nowadays I only play my favourite franchises and story heavy games, which is not much as most games are just mindless shooters.

Ah, you're not too old for gaming. You've just been out of the game for so long-no pun intended-that you've forgotten all the skills and logical thinking you picked up over the years you spent gaming when you were younger. The more you play and continue to practice, you'll get back into it. Just you wait and see!

This is so funny you posted this because I was just thinking the same thing about myself! It seems like the older I get the worse at gaming I get. Those young guys are out there destroying me! haha.

I'm very hyped for the Virtual Reality. I don't feel like playing anything at all until this great thing is going to be launched. Until then, I'm getting some money together in order to be able to buy it.
