How Long Do You think it will take for the PS4 to begin dropping in Price?

I'm thinking we will see a price decrease around the holidays, 2017. It's such a popular system right now and there is a high demand for consoles. I don't see that demand dropping for at least another two or three years.

I read an article that rumored that they would drop it $50 around the holiday season. Don't know how true that is though.

I don't think it will drop anytime soon either. When it does, I don't think it'll be by much. They just aren't cutting the prices on these consoles like they used to. It probably has something to do with all of the technology that is involved, I'm sure.

I'll be genuinely surprised if we were to see any sort of drop this year. The console is still far too new. As I keep on saying and call my cynical if you will, but I'm convinced Sony are artificially creating continuous demand thanks to the low numbers trickling out of the factory… There's nothing wrong with doing that as such, but it means the consumer ends up paying more for a lot longer. I 'gave in' quite quickly with the PS3 and ended up paying top whack (I felt ripped off barely six months later when better packages were offered for the same price). However, I was much younger back then and had less responsibility/more disposable income than I do now. I will not be falling into this trap again and if Sony insist on playing ‘the waiting game’ with it's gamers again, then so will I… Two can play at that game.

After saying this over a price drop, I do suspect there will be better value bundles on the horizon, however. I’d expect to start seeing such bundles appearing probably around summer time. This is what I'm waiting for and that's when I’ll consider purchasing one. Until then – not a chance. I can't justify the current price for the use it'll get. I will be surprised if there’s no better bundle deals before the end of the year. If not, I'll happily wait a bit longer. There's only so long people will wait before interest starts to fade or buy something else…

That makes sense to me, Hayman...I get it. I do think that these companies want to make their products seem like something totally innovative that everyone wants and should pay top dollar for. That might be partially true, but the prices on electronics really need to start dropping. In the past, prices would drop when multiple companies had new tech out and were competing for our dollars. Nowadays, they are all coming out with products but are all expecting top dollar from us...who can afford all of this stuff?

This is 100% understandable. I too was going to wait but ended up getting a like new PS4 and Astro A40's with mixamp for $400. I couldn't pass that deal up. I may end up selling the A40's though bc I don't know if I will use them enough.

The early adopters always pave the way for the general consumer. I think Sony should keep the price where it's at, and use those profits to push out a greater library, so that in a few years when the price drop does hit, it will appeal to more people. To drop the price on the PS4 now would be a serious sign of weakness.

I give it like 3-4 years before there's any price drop, honestly. It's the X1 that's in the position to drop the price, since it's more expensive. Maybe the PS4 will drop slightly once the X1 drops its price, but we really have no way of seeing the future, do we?

I think that Sony are pretty happy with the current sales rates so won't be in any rush to lower the price. I think the price will stay in place for this Christmas at least, although some stores may put their own offers on. I think the actual price drops will probably come sometime during 2015.

Stores can only offer so many offers when manufacturers aren't coming down. Plus, some have contracts with manufacturers that they won't sell products for less than a certain price. We'll see, though. I'd love to see them come down by a good $75 or so, but who knows when that will be?

I don't think the PS4 will start dropping in price any time soon but if Sony decides to do so it will probably be around Christmas time but only temporarily. You always see mostly every company dropping there prices on items around Christmas time.

Where I live (Canada) the price of the PlayStation 4 actually went UP $50 a couple months ago. So up here the PlayStation 4 is $449.99. Comparatively the Xbox One bundled with Titanfall and Kinect is $499.99. I'm still not seeing PlayStation 4s on the store shelves.

There is no reason for Sony to lower the price right now..

Why did the price go up? That doesn't really make any since a couple of months after launch. I heard PS4s are still pretty scarce outside the US though. Sucks to hear. A lot of Canadians have had to buy them from US stores.

I think that it would be another 2-3 years before they begin to drop the price. Simply because the PS4 has been selling like hot cakes right now for the price that it is at and when something is doing good why spoil it. The PS4 right now is the top selling console of the next gen.

A lot of reasons. I wrote about it at the time but don't remember. The exchange rate and our dollar's value going down was the main reason. At the time of the increase $399.99 USD was around $444 CAD. So in reality we were getting a great deal up to that point. It only being $50 less than Xbone has made things interesting up here though.
