How Long Do You think it will take for the PS4 to begin dropping in Price?

All systems fall in price eventually, but some at a faster speed than others. I'm just curious as to how long you guys will think it will take, as many more casual gamers tend to wait off until the price plummets a little bit before investing in expensive systems.

Most likely a while, I'm guessing 2-3 years, just like a lot of other consoles like the Xbox 360 or the PS3. The Xbox One however might take longer to drop in price since they do have extra entertainment features like the TV, streaming, etc. Maybe 3-4 years for the Xbox One.

I can't remember how long it took the PS3 to drop in price, but I would guess the same timeframe. I would be very surprised if it fell in the first year to year and a half. I guess it depends on sales, but it doesn't look like that's going to be much of an issue for quite some time.

Realistically, I don't see a price drop for at least 2 years time, so I'm expecting around mid to late 2015 at the earliest. Still, even then how far would they lower the price? To be hones, $399 to me is a steal. They might only lower it by $50 or if we're lucky they might drop it to $299. I guess we will all have to just wait and see when and to what extent it will happen. I'm definitely not going to wait that long though.

I agree that it will probably be around 2 years before we see a price drop. I don't mind waiting that long as I still have a lot of PS3 games to keep me busy until then. I did the same thing with the PS2 meaning I let my game queue fill up so I'll have a lot of games to catch up on while waiting for the PS3 price drop. This console is being released at a much cheaper price, though, so I wouldn't mind paying for this one at full price either, but I'd prefer to just see what happens and like I said, I still have lots more PS3 games to catch up on anyway. :)

You never know, some stores hold exclusive deals, especially when bundling it with games, before that 1 to 2 year period passes. We have to remember that this is the business world, and a console priced at one store will probably be differently priced when compared to another. On its release, I'll look around for affordable prices and if I can't find any, I'll wait for these bundled deals to surface. I'll probably end up doing that anyway, but by the time it cuts to half price, you can bet the next console will be underway in the dev centers already.

I think it will drop in price every year. Gradually. Probably in the holidays next year, maybe the price would decrease to $350. In 2015, maybe it would just be priced at $299. I'm not sure though. That's just me hoping and dreaming since I plan on getting a PS 4 when the price would drop. But with the rapid advancement of technology, along comes with it the constant drop in price.

They won't drop the price too soon, but they will surely make bundles at the same prices. Buy the console + games at the same price, and that's something like a price drop, because you're not investing money in the games. Any company hates lowering prices, because they lose profit. Even if the console costs 200$ to make and sell it for 350, they will be furious at the millions lost, so yeah... having a lower price is a big no no for a huge company like Sony.

The PS 4 has no incentive to drop their price early. The cost of the hardware is less than the Xbox One and not that much greater then a Wii U. They are able to sustain their market and force Microsoft to consider a price drop before them. Because of that position they can plan for an immediate response to any Microsoft drop and that puts them in a great position to not even worry about this.

Sadly for consumers that isn't a good thing. My suggestion, start doing some extra work on the side and be ready to get a good Black Friday deal!

I think they will drop the price in about 2 years time. Then again, I guess it depends on whether the stores do deals or promotions. I expect that I will be able to find a PS4 £60 cheaper by this time next year. One simple reason, eBay. In a years time there will be a lot of PS4's floating around on eBay at a discounted price from launch. Also if you check price comparison sites there is bound to be a steal this time next year.

Depends on how well they sell. If they're still selling strong numbers, the prices will remain. When sales drop, prices drop. Based on the several factors, primarily, the fact its been 8 years since the last console generation I will say 18 months before the first drop.

I agree with Joel, I think they will try to keep their competitive advantage over the Xbox One. So if it drops its price the PlayStation 4 will drop its price in kind staying the cost affordable system on the market.

It's hard to tell. I want to say by next Black Friday we'll see a $50 drop, slim versions or a special bundle of some kind. I think we have to look at the Xbox 360 and PS3 though. They're going to drop the price in proportion to their older boxes.

PS3 was getting killed and they didn't drop the price for a few years. Even them I believe it was when they came out with gimped version lacking the BC hardware. PS4 is going to fly off the shelves and on inventory alone probably smoke Xbox. I do not expect them to drop for a long time. Especially when the competition is $100 more and nobody cares about the Wii U.

I would definitely point to 8months to a year depending on the starting sales, if the console sells the amounts they're expecting it to, then I would say something like 1-2 years, every local store is expecting to get it sold out by the official release day.

Probably about 3 years. Unlike the PS3, it isn't over-priced. We'll have to wait for a few price drops from Microsoft before we see Sony even thinking about that.

The original PS3 came out at a 600$ price pint. I don't think the PS4 will see such a massive price cut.

I would have to say maybe a few months after launch. As soon as Sony sees that the demand for a PS4 is dropping they will most likely cut the price
