How powerful is the Vita?

Does anyone know how powerful the Vita is when compared to, say, a computer? I remember reading somewhere that the PS3/XBox 360 were almost as powerful as a computer (or are as powerful as a computer?) and since the Vita is basically as expensive as a console/computer anyway, I assume it must be pretty close to that.

I have not exactly heard any information, on how powerful the Vita is. If the PS3 and Xbox 360 are as powerful as computers, I would guess the Vita will be, too.

The Playstation Vita is, probably, not as powerful as a computer, but it's powerful enough to offer a great gaming experience. I don't think you can really compare a gaming console to a computer, because the former is just a portable device intended to serve only one purpose (playing games), while the PC is intended to do a lot more.

I think S-Gamer is right, a handheld game system can't compare to a computer. A computer can do so much, allowing you to store all kinds of information. You can even manipulate the information, on a computer. Handheld gaming systems just can not do all of that.

From what I've read, the Vita is more powerful than Playstation 2, but it isn't quite as powerful as Playstation 3. It's apparently capable of more than almost any tablet although the Android tablets come fairly close. However, I agree that the Vita probably doesn't compare to most computers.

Being almost as powerful as a tablet would make sense, I suppose. I guess I just can't understand why the Vita is so much more expensive to everything else, even when you compare it even to the PS3. It seems like it should be really, super-duper powerful, you know?

The Vita has twice as much RAM as the Playstation 3. One feature that is touted for using that extra memory is cross-game chat. Vita, however, only has half as much video RAM as Playstation 3.

So, what's more important: RAM or video RAM? What surprises me is that the Vita continues to be extremely popular among gamers, despite its price. I have a feeling that even Sony was taken aback by the PS Vita's popularity.

The price indifference surprises me, too. However, unless the price drops and/or there is a big selection of reasonably-priced games, I don't see the Vita going the distance. As for RAM and video RAM, I guess it depends on the game.
