Install times on PS4 vs. Xbox One

I cant believe the difference in load times

We wanted to test the install times of both new consoles, so we plugged a PS4 into an Xbox One's TV input and watched them race to install a game. You can see in our video, there's a big difference in the two systems.


Assassin's Creed IV:
Xbox One (offline, no update): 5 minutes 50 seconds
Xbox One (with update, fastest connection): 7 minutes 2 seconds
Xbox One (with update, 10Mbps connection): 10 minutes 32 seconds
PS4: 42 seconds

The rest of these were tested on our office Wi-Fi which is around 9-11Mbps. It may have been faster on a wired connection, but you can compare your own connection speed here. These are our results:

Need For Speed Rivals:
XBO: 09:25 (including update)
PS4: 00:32

Just Dance 2014:
XBO: 08:48 (including update)
PS4: 00:45

NBA Live 14:
XBO: 16:26 (including update)
PS4: 00:35

FIFA 14:
XBO: 16:06 (including update)
PS4: 00:34

Madden 25:
XBO: 9:38 (including update)
PS4: 00:38

I always hated that installing games took forever on Xbox 360. Sucks that it's the same for Xbox One.

I've watched several videos of people installing games on the Xbox One, I'm not sure why but it takes forever for the game to install. And even though you can play a game before it fully installs the percentage before play varies for each game and the install is so slow. This is easily the worst part of gaming on the Xbox One. I can't think of a reason why installing is so much faster on the PS4.

Hah.. I came here to post the exact same topic.

Pretty damn huge difference. Really surprised to see the PS4 excel by so much in this category. Last generation, the 360 handled these things much better and the PS3 didn't, although I think a lot of that had to do with Blu-ray being slower to read from than the 360's DVD drive.

Honestly, I'm not the type of person that thinks this is a deal breaker. If I felt the Xbone was the better system for me, I would still get it regardless of this, but it's nice to know my system of choice has another advantage.

I didn't own a 360, but I was under the impression that the 360 handled installs and updates better than the PS3. Was that not the case?

The thing is with PS4 games are Playgo,play as you install,so you can start playing soon after it starts to install.
With Xbone the games have to be fully installed before play can start.

That is a HUGE difference. That's like comparing N64 with PS3. I mean these are next gen consoles we're talking about. The install times might as well be "lunch time" because by the time you finish lunch, it'll probably be finished. PS4 owns the One in this area for sure!

Not to hate on anyone, but I have yet to see the Xbox One win in any competition VS the PS4 in any game related comparisons. If you play games and only games, the PS4 is full of win.
