Is Sony still selling brand new PS 2 consoles?

I have read in the financial statements of Sony and it showed that they were losing money in the gaming department because of the research and development for the PS 4. Anyway, another thing that caught my eye is that sales in their gaming segment included PS 2 units. Does this mean that Sony still makes PS 2 units?

Thanks for the info. It just amazes me that Sony still kept on manufacturing PS2 units long after the PS3 propelled into stardom. If this is the case, do you think that they would still continue to make PS3 units long after the PS4 is already established?

Hey! Some of us like our PS2 still - I actually bought a second one 2010/2011... because my other one broke and I needed a new one. Besides the available library is just amazing - hundreds of games for 5.00 or less. In terms of the PS3 I can see them selling those for as long, but more likely they'll discontinue it sooner.

You might still be able to find basically new PS2s online, however they'd be very, very expensive I believe. If you need another one I'd recommend you try to find a good used console.

Really crazy that they were still in production until this year.

I think that it developing countries (I heard it about Brazil for sure) the PS2 is still the popular console, that's why games like FIFA still come out on PS2

Nah, they're not that expensive. A PS2 console here in my place costs just around $150 and that's brand new. Give it probably 20 more years and maybe the price of 1 PS2 would jack up because it would already be considered as a classic console.

A lot of third world countries are just getting the console (i have read that Brazil just got the PS2 in 2011 or something like that, it was really crazy), so it was definitely a thing they continued because it's cheap to manufacture. Why do you think Fifa 14 is still released on the PS2?

That's interesting that third world countries are getting the PS2 now. Brazil is not a third world country, by the way. There are so many good games for ps2 that I can see why someone would be interested in buying a new one. Especially when you consider that sony's consoles break a lot (at least for me they do). The desire for a new console over a used one is understandable.

No, if you are looking to buy a PS2 now, You will have to buy a second hand PS2. They have stopped developing PS2 last year in the wake of PS4 focus.

I'm surprised if anyone still wants a PS2. You're better off just buying the PS3. I can't even remember the last time I touched my PS2, probably more than 4 years now.

I got me a PS2 a long time ago and I still have it. I have a PS3 as well.and will be getting a PS4 when it comes out. I actually still have a PS1 too and I play games on each. I know that there are games for both platforms on PSN but I like having the games. I just like going out and buying games.I probably won't stop buying games either.

I play my PS2 almost daily as it is. There were a lot of great games that came out for that system. Heck they are the only games the pawnshops in my area will take that are older than ps3 and xbox 360. You can barely give away xbox original games around here.

Well, I haven't seen a store near our place that sells brand new PS2 consoles but I'm sure that there are plenty of sellers online. Maybe around $100 for a second hand? (or less).

It is pretty normal for old consoles to be produced in other countries. I can't remember which country, but I think it is Brazil that still produces Sega Genesis consoles and games. That is just crazy from an American standpoint.

I think they will, since I recall them selling PS1's long after PS2 has peaked and plateaued and unless they deviate from this pattern for some reason, I'm guessing they will continue selling PS3s for a long time after we all move on to the PS4 completely. Additionally, I would love to have a PS2 again, but I don't have an existing library so I don't think it's worth it, unfortunately. I'll just probably try to download all my favorite games hopefully.
